Around 300 Muslim students from the southern border provinces arrived at the Army Area 4 head office in Nakhon Si Thammarat to seek his help over their requests for educational loans.

The students said they came from the unstable three southern provinces to study in Nakhon Si Thammarat and applied for loans from the Office of the Student Loan Committee from the beginning of the educational year.

They said the educational year was ending soon but the office has not approved their loan applications and not explained why.

Ha-ahree Ola, a first-year student of Chalerm Kanchana University in Nakhon Si Thammarat, said if the office does not approve the loans, the poorer students would have to drop out.

She said her group has filed a complaint and sought help from the prime minister and education minister but heard nothing.

The students dispersed after Col Yutthana Phetmuag, the Civilian Affairs Division director, promised to forward the complaint to the regional commander, Lt Gen Pornsak Poolsawat.

Move to Malaysia, Muslims get Preferential Treatment, huge discounts on loans and many other things.

Nothing for the Indians and Chinese or anyone else.

Maybe the loans are not Sharia compliant so the Thai government has declined to approve them.

A country charging its future tax payers for education is doomed!

Try to cast your prejudice to the side for a moment and actually read what they are complaining about.

Why on earth should they move to Malaysia? They are Thai citizens.

I guess that the west has been doomed for a long time already then...

Education to secondary level is free in most western countries, tertiary education is free in most European countries and heavily subsidised in other western countries. The UK is free to secondary level and then fees apply (except Scotland) for tertiary education, with fees being similar now to those charged in the US.

Yes, agreed - see the US breeding modern slaves by the thousands every state and every year ????
