U.S. Justice Department preparing to receive Mueller report - CNN

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice may announce as early as next week that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has given the attorney general his report on the federal Russia investigation, CNN said on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

 

After the expected announcement, U.S. Attorney General William Barr will review Mueller's findings and submit his own summary to Congress, CNN reported.

 

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment on the CNN report. Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, also declined to comment.

 

Democrats have been concerned that Barr, who has discretion over what is ultimately made public, will choose to limit disclosure, although the new attorney general has said he would seek to make public as much of Mueller's findings as he can.

 

Trump, responding to the CNN report on Wednesday, noted that decision would be up to Barr.

 

"That'll be totally up to the new attorney general," Trump told reporters at the White House as he prepared to meet Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.

 

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion by U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign, as well as possible obstruction of justice by the Republican president.

 

Trump has denied any collusion and repeatedly slammed the Russia probe as a "witch hunt." Moscow has also denied any meddling. So far, 34 individuals and three companies have pleaded guilty, been indicted or otherwise swept up in the inquiry, including several former Trump advisers.

 

The report will not mark the end of legal scrutiny on Trump.

 

Newly empowered Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives have said they plan to use Mueller's court filings to build a picture of wrongdoing by Trump advisers that can provide the basis for hearings.

 

The Mueller probe has also spawned several investigations that are being handled by other offices and will carry on even after Mueller's work is done.

 

Under special counsel regulations, Mueller must submit a confidential report to the attorney general explaining his prosecutorial decisions at the conclusion of his work.

 

The attorney general, in turn, is required to inform the judiciary committees of Congress about Mueller's report in the form of "brief notifications, with an outline of the actions and the reasons for them."

 

How much ultimately becomes public is unclear.

 

Barr, who was confirmed by the Senate last week, said during his confirmation hearings that he would make public as many of Mueller's findings as he can but stopped short of promising to release the entire report.

Impeach...impeach...impeach...he stole the election out from under the queen of the Democratic party...the one who has obstructed justice to save her on butt...most successful white collar criminal in world history...still walking the streets as a free citizen.

Once the report summary is published, fake news will begin never ending speculation of a coverup hidden by what info was not published.

The US is more fugged up than any 3rd world country...

Friday could be interesting!  Will Mueller unseal and release indictments that have already been registered with the DC court and also issue new ones before he releases the report or has he transferred the jurisdiction to other areas?

And just in case there is a lot of evidence in the Mueller investigation that he is not the greatest president ever. Do you think he should be prosecuted? Or are you one of those Trump supporters who think he should get away with anything?

And should the investigators get medals and an extra bonus for exposing the truth?

Luckily Donald's best is not exactly on a high level. He might try, but he will fail.

I doubt Mueller is wrapping up just yet.

 

He’s only just arrested Roger Stone, who’s indictment specifically states conspiracy and cooperation between Stone, the Trump Campaign, Russian Intelligence and Wikileaks.

 

Stone is back in court tomorrow facing the real possibility of having his bail removed for threatening the judge hearing his case.

 

More indictments are heading Stone’s way and he’s got a front row seat to the sentence being handed to Manafort.

 

Stone will sing.

 

Mueller isn’t done yet.

Mueller has already transferred the Stone case to the US Attorney in DC and farmed out other investigations to other jurisdictions.  As I said Friday will be interesting to see if he will unseal other indictments that are already registered in the DC court.  I suspect he won't and has transferred responsibility to the US Attorney in DC.

You are so very wrong. He is one of the worst presidents, regardless of what standards one uses to judge him. No doubt he colluded with Russia. It would be like asking a scorpion to not sting a frog. He could not help himself, when presented with the opportunity. His felonious nature prevailed. Now, he is being asked to account for his lifetime of crime. 

 

But even among Republicans, Trump was ranked quite unfavorably. Respondents who identified as Republicans or conservatives ranked Trump 40th out of 44 presidents. Self-described Democrats and liberals both ranked him last.

I think it will be worse - it will set out that Trump is a Russian asset. That the Russians have had him in their pocket all along. To show how bad things are, when the Deputy head of the FBI brought this allegation to the committee of 4 Republicans and 4 Democrats, they did not even ask a question or exhibit surprise or shock. This is how we got the Mueller investigation. Trump is actually correct - there is no collusion. Collusion is when two equals cooperate. An asset just does what he is told unquestioningly.

Here's my guess as to what will be revealed. Lots of nefarious dealings by sleazy actors who can not be tied back to Trump personally. IOW he skates on the collusion. I do believe however greater interest will be paid to the actions of Trump, private citizen and CEO of the Trump organization. Revelations from that quarter will be shocking evn to the group that love to eat his shit and will ultimitately lead to his resignation or announcement he will not seek a second term.

I disagree to an extent. Its time to put this Modern Day Watergate behind us and keep America moving. Im not going to be one of those guys on the net yelling see, I told you it was a witch hunt, everybody but the most deranged anti Trumpers in the media knows that. But this sad saga has to end. Trump should blanket pardon Hillary, Huma, Loretta and that other lady Jarrett.  If he wanted to be a d*ckhead (and he likes to be one), he can pardon Obama too.However, guys like  Comey, McCabe, Strzock, Page and Ohr all need to be prosecuted. The rest of the story is up to the American people during elections. And Carter Page's lawsuit should be a good one.

 

Where are the Frank Churches in the Democratic party by the way? Where are the bipartisan calls for reform of the FISA system and the intelligence Agencies

He can only pardon for crimes committed. So most of the people you mention can't be pardoned.

Surely you guys know that this is not the end.  There's a shtload of investigations ongoing/in the works.  The House Democrats have been anxiously waiting for Mueller's report so they can decide how to start their various investigations.  And then there's the Southern District of New York.  They've really got the goods on Trump.  The SDNY is going full bore after Trump, his family, and the entire Trump organization.  It's not the end, only the beginning.

However, if the attorney general disagrees with the special consuls recommendations he has to provide a written response as to why  he disagrees and provide that and supporting evidence including the the special consul's reasons to support his recommendation and evidence that supports his reason for denial to Congress.
