Superhero firemen cleanse the streets of PM2.5 dust in Nakhon Pathom

Firemen in Nakhon Pathom's Kamphaeng Saen district on Monday brought smiles to people’s faces as they donned superhero outfits to literally cleanse the streets of bad PM2.5 particulate dust.

Residents and vendors on Malaiman Road and around the Kamphaeng Saen Market area could not help but smile to see the group of road-sweeping workers and water-spraying firefighters – led by Spider-Man, Captain America, Batman and The Hulk – do battle against the dust amid the hot weather, clad in their tight-fitting suits.

Tambon Kamphaeng Saen municipality’s acting mayor, Wasan Kimwang, said that because the street-cleaning project to curb the PM2.5 dust took place at locations where traffic jams were severe, the firemen had dressed in the superhero outfits with a view to helping lessen tension for motorists inconvenienced by the operation.

The move was welcomed by passing motorists who found themselves stuck in the road jams, as well as by pedestrians who took souvenir photos of the superheroes in action and seemed to be less stressed than normal from the heat and traffic jams.

Just proves that the water spraying is a complete farce and a joke. The particles do not disappear, they are just simply washed away ready to return to the air later. They do not decompose, even when they are in our bodies. They are lethal. But this is Thailand, where they know everything !!    LOS =  Land of Stupidity.   Land of SMOKE

Exactly, when the water evapourates the particles will just rise up again... ready to poison again.

Amazing ridiculous Thailand

True but i have a fixed pm2.5 meter and a handheld. They dont change when it rains. Wind however does blow it away. WE are the filters! Thats how you get rid of pm2.5. Use the people.

This is moronic, better posters than me have said it better. You can buy an economical PM2.5 monitor from Lazada costing about 3500 bht.

The trouble is our lungs dont listen to this idiotic Pollution Information massage unit, our lungs just keep absorbing these tiny particles.

Those firemen could try doing something useful like putting the bloody fires out.

Ooooooh, they brought a smile to peoples faces!

Clearly to be seen, because the mask wearing- craze of 2 weeks ago is long over and gone!

The air is now squeaky clean again!

We let schoolchildren stay home for 2 days and spray some water!

Job done!

Environment saved!

I think part of the problem is that PM2.5 particles are referred to as "dust" or "haze" which implies that a goose with a hose can somehow wash the air clean. The reality is that ultrafine particles in the 2.5 ug range behave as a gas, and like a gas can infiltrate buildings and our lungs with ease. See the following.

"] Senate Inquiry - The impacts on health of air quality in Australia. Problems with the NPI database
www.aph.gov.au/DocumentStore.ashx?...
of PM2.5 pollution, currently considered the most health-hazardous pollutant in our air. PM2.5 is ... PM2.5 are so tiny they behave like gases and infiltrate houses even when all doors and windows are closed, and ..."

i read a scientific news report that said spraying with water was completely ineffective as the particles were too small.

i also had to explain to thai friends that paper masks that were not air tight were completely useless

the locals see and read this mad stuff in the local media and believe it, despite common sense clearly contradicting what is said.

It's not about what works, it's about what placates the mobs so they will continue as loyal servants. Any feelgood BS will do, truth is too harsh.
