It should be noted that that is an earned income exclusion.

Correct but you still get $24,000 standard deduction now filing jointly or $12,000 filing single as there are no more itemized...

So it is still pretty good.

We have a debt of 22 trillion. There isn't the money for it like Feinstein had to tell the little kids.

If those who can easily rake together millions or billions from their fellow americans would pay a more fair tax rate the usa could easily afford an affordable healthcare for everybody. Stop confusing socialism with communism! I am from Europe where I myself am glad to pay the highest tax rate. In return I get a decent society with excelent healthcare for everybody at afordable rates. Roads in excellent condition and no third world situations in a first world country. With a fairer tax system the enormous debt could be limited. The wealthy americans just should stop overindulging. Make America fair again!

In many ways, it is but there already programs that is Socialism?  but our representatives don't want to admit it. The program is the biggest of any programs there is in the U.S. it is called our Tax System IRS!  Amazon just made billions last year and the taxes Amazon paid $0

Only if ALL medical care professionals are conscripted into government service.

Don’t worry, the outcome of this poll isn’t binding on the US Government.

However, elections are.

Support for single payer healthcare amongst US voters is in the majority, regardless of political affiliation.

This is not a Healthcare problem it is an insurance problem. Anyone that has Healthcare through an employer wants nothing to do with it.

They need to take the investment out of Health insurance. It has destroyed it. There are good non profit companies in the US.

Obviously the people of your country are getting gouged. They are either too stupid or weak realize it to do anything about it.

Or, just possibly, the medical insurance, pharmaceutical and medical industries have some sort of hold over the elected "representatives"?

I certainly hope not. America is a constitutional Republic. I'd like to see it stay that way. NOT a democracy and certainly not a Socialist society which is what Single payer health systems are a part of.

America is exceptional. It is the only government in the world where anyone rich or poor can pull him or herself up by their own bootstraps and become all they want to be without the government putting restrictions on him or her. Although I must admit it is becoming less and less like that and the freedoms are being slowly whittled away with the increased advances towards socialism.

So rather than bitch about it, elect people that will change the tax code so that Amazon won't have so many ways to evade LEGALLY paying taxes.

Several of my friends are British and they tell me their single payer health care system SUCKS. And I know for a fact that the same can be said of the Canadian system. Want a hip replacement???? Be prepared to wait more than a year. And America is fair. EVERYONE has the same opportunity to become a multi millionaire through hard work and entrepreneurship.

Bill Gates didn't start out rich and neither did most of the other multi millionaire business owners in America. Envy and jealousy of their wealth by the ignorant masses is the reason Socialism has such appeal to the young people.

I believe people really misjudge what taxes are used for. The big argument is "taxes are used to pay for roads". Great. Who do roads benefit the most? The govt has no tax if nobody is driving to work. I think roads and infasteucture benefit govt much more than the people.

Anyway, whether you agree with that or not, my opinion is Americans actually get very little direct benefit from thwir tax dollars. You may pay for things like aerial simulation excercises half way across the world... what do we pay for that actually benefits us? There is not much on the list is you ask me.

That is where health care comes in. The taxes could actually be used to help the people paying them.

Next, ask your british and Canadian friends where they are going to rush back to when they get ill? It ain’t going to be the good ole US of A (yee-haaaw). They’ll rush back to the bosom of their national health services and changing their tune.

Meanwhile if you believe the way you do, then definitely get rid of this socialist policies in he US like Medicare, post office, federal highways and the military. You know government funded bohemeths that do nothing for anyone and that any freeloader can take advantage of.

All people should be able to see a doctor and get necessary medical treatment. There are different ways to archive that.

But to keep the cost (for individuals or the taxpayer) reasonable it should be really a coverage of necessary cost and not all possible treatments.

More and more people are getting older and it is often possible to keep them alive a little longer for another year or so - with immense cost.

If the system should not crash there have to be limits.

If rich people want to spend lots of extra money to get something special and extra, fine, let them pay that extra money.

How many countries have one health insurance for all? I don't think that are so many. Any statistics?

How many people become a multi millionaire in the USA? Maybe 1%? I guess less than that. Are the 99% all stupid and lazy and do they deserve to die if they can't afford medical treatment?

Yes.

In Canada it covers all the people, has better outcomes and costs HALF of the US system. It is far, far superior.

Duh!

I dont see it ever happening. The insurance companies would never let the government be a single payer.

If they expanded Medicare and keep allowing the private insurance companies to provide plans, then it could happen, but the insurance companies would increase co-pays. premiums etc.   The US govt (medicare) needs to negotiate fair drugs costs and figure out a fair fee schedule for procedures, i.e. regulate the healthcare industry.

Enormous $$$ flowing into USA politics. One of the most corrupt western countries. Add in the high religious rate makes for a real mess.

Even more $$$ flows out. I am always amazed for how little people can be bought. Campaign contributions have about the highest return on investment than almost anything else you could name.

Goverments exist to  provide those things that are necessary for life, libert and the pursuit of happiness.  That is enshrined in the US Constitution.

Medical care is a human right and that is why  all  'first World' countries except the US provide it.   Medicare for all is coming and nothing will stop it because the American healthcare system is completely out of control and basically corrupt.

Medicare for all is  going to cost  but private insurance is way over priced and Big Pharma is making obscene profits on life saving drugs that the average person cannot afford.

I am hopeful Medicare for All  provides  complete care for the Us population wherever they are and that includes Thailand.  Those of us currently under Medicare have paid into the system for  50-60 years and cannot  use the system overseas. Ridiculous.  We should be able to go into any Thai Hospital with our Medicare Card and the  service billed to Medicare in the US.  The costs  of medical care in Thailand is 10% of what it would cost in America and thus the savings for the system would be huge.

Why shouldn't I be considering what's best for myself. Get over yourself.

2019 defense budget, providing $617 billion for the base budget and another $69 billion for war funding , and marking the fourth year of budget increases?

Starting in 2019, the U.S. will give Israel $38 billion over the next 10 years – $3.8 billion per year, which is $10.41 million per day.

Yeah.....if things like this are affordable then yes we can surely afford free healthcare for all Americans

Wow! I didn't know that Canada, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and the Rest of the developed world are "socialist" countries who are bancrupt.

What a load of utter horsemanure.

No!!!

Such brilliant responses!

Let the inept self serving lying bureaucrats and politicians take total control of medical care?

An insidious and ridiculous yet extremely popular idea.

No!!!

Just imagine if the approximately 85 Billion/Yr in religious exemptions were clawed back. That would compound in savings and revenues in other areas as well. So long as their freedom to believe as they choose is maintained they have absolutely no business influencing government at an organizational level.
