Another Hit and Run Road Accident

On the 27th of February at 10.45pm Pattaya Police were called to the scene of a road accident on Sukhumvit Road, North Pattaya.

When they arrived at the scene Police found a Honda Jazz turned over in a ditch by the side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle, Khun Bandit Pianghadin, aged 36, told Police that he was driving along Sukhumvit Road towards Pattaya.

At an intersection the traffic lights were green so he drove through when suddenly a motorbike cut in front of his vehicle.

At this point he immediately made an attempt to avoid a collision, causing him to run over a footpath and collided with the electric post before turning over into the ditch.

The motorbike rider fled the scene into the night.

Police investigation continues.

I'm puzzled why this accident report made the farang press.

Surely it is not uncommon for a Thai on a motorcycle to be a victim of a hit-and-run accident? I could understand it if the driver were famous or killed and/or a farang.

Or, am I mistaken and that such accidents are quite rare, and hence newsworthy?

Probably the unusual aspect is that the driver swerved to avoid the m'bike.

A "Honda Jazz" is a Small Car not a motor cycle..

a small car on its roof.
