Applying for Non "O" visa / Retirement visa on extension for canadian citizen

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone,

I have really deeply benefited from the immense wisdom and expertise so abundant on this site over a long time. So forgive me if this question has been asked before. I could not find any discussions about these topics particularly.
Here is my situation: I am hitting my 50th birthday tomorrow. So I finally qualify for my retirement visa. I am a Canadian citizen. However, my 2-month tourist visa expires on the 17th which means I have to go to immigration on Friday to renew.
I had originally intended to apply for my Non O visa right after tomorrow and before the 17th. But my friend told me that after I apply for Non O visa they keep my passport for 2 weeks. This means, of course, I apply the day after tomorrow I would run the risk of having overstay.
So my best bet is to apply for my Non O visa on my 1-month extension after I get my extension that after Friday.
Now here is the thing. This is my 3rd consecutive extension I know the immigration doesnt like 3 consecutive extensions spanning over 9 months. Also, I have no idea if one can apply for Non O retirement visa while on the extension, or one needs to have an actual visa?
So this is why I am posting this, since you gents are so incredibly knowledgable and also so generous with your considerable knowledge.
If you have read up to this I like to also ask you if you have any information about the affidavit for Canadian embassy's letter of income if there are any rigorous conditions for it, and after getting the said affidavit how long does it last?
So, in summary, these are my questions should you be so kind to answer them.
-can one apply for retirement Non O visa while on an extension?
-does having the 3rd extension adversely negatively affect the application process?
-If it is not good to apply for retirement visa on a 3rd extension, can I apply for retirement with only 3 days left in my visa? what happens to my extension?
-are there any more rigorous conditions to applying for an affidavit of the letter of income in canadian embassy than it was to for US embassy?
-when I receive my affidavit from Canadian embassy how long do I have before it expires and cant be used for retirment application?
-are there any online resources and places and disucssions that deal with these particular questions, would you kindly share them?

Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond to my questions. I am immensely grateful for your kindness. Should you feel like it you can also message me privately, or send me an email at my email at [email protected] should you feel the need.

I really look forward to benefiting from the vast wisdom and expertise of this esteemed panel of generous gents :)

Re: Income Verification Letter. 1. Make an appointment on-line at the Consular Section of the Embassy. 2. Take to the Embassy documents supporting the monthly income you are claiming to receive. 3. The Letter they give you will be valid for 6 months.

They do not keep your passport. You go back in two weeks to have the visa and entry stamp done in your passport.

The is no restriction on getting a 30 day extension of your current entry.

Thank you!

I am not sure why my friend said they kept his passport for 2 weeks then.

I am still wondering if applying for retirement visa on my extension would be ok?

They may have said, you have to apply more than 2 weeks (15 days) before your current permitted-stay is due to expire?  Some offices want 21 days before.  It is not given immediately, so you must return later (about 2 weeks) to get the stamp put in your passport.

You will apply for the extension, get it, then apply for the Non-O stamp.  If you try to get the Non-O stamp with not enough permitted-stay remaining, they will ask you to do the extension.

Did he do it himself or was he using an agent. Agents often hold passports but immigration does not do that.
