Foreign Couple Filmed Having Sex on Phuket Beach

Featured Replies

A video appearing to show a foreign couple engaging in sexual activity on a beach in Phuket has gone viral on Thai social media, prompting widespread criticism and calls for authorities to take action.

The footage, shared by the Phuket Times Facebook page on 27 July, reportedly shows the incident taking place at Tri Trang Beach in Patong, Kathu district, during the evening. The page captioned the clip: “Phuket - the atmosphere got the better of them. Thinking it was their own private paradise! Foreign tourist couple showing off their love on Tri Trang Beach with no concern for anyone else.”

The video, filmed by a bystander before being uploaded online, appears to show a man and woman, believed to be foreign tourists, engaging in sexual activity on the public beach.

Social media backlash

The footage quickly attracted strong reactions from Thai social media users, many of whom condemned the couple’s behaviour as inappropriate for a public place.

Comments included references to Phuket’s long-standing tourism slogan “Island of Love, Beach of Paradise”, while others called for those involved to be arrested, deported and barred from returning to Thailand. Those views were expressed by social media users and do not reflect any official position.

No government agency or police authority has publicly confirmed the identities of those in the video, verified the circumstances of the incident or announced whether any legal action would be taken.

What it means for foreign visitors

For foreigners living in or visiting Thailand, the incident is a reminder that behaviour considered private elsewhere can attract criminal penalties if it takes place in public.

Public indecency and acts deemed offensive to public morals can fall under Thai law, with police able to investigate incidents captured on video or reported by witnesses. Foreign nationals found to have committed offences may face prosecution and, depending on the circumstances and the outcome of any legal proceedings, could also face immigration consequences.

The case has also highlighted how quickly incidents involving tourists can spread on social media in Thailand, often drawing significant public attention before authorities have issued any official statement.

Sand is not a very good lubricant. You can quote me on that. 😎

  • Under Thai law, the max punishment for sex on the beach is a month in jail and 5,000 baht. Recording the video is punishable by 5 years in prison. The best way to protect Thailand's "wholesome image"

Phuket is obviously getting too crowded if one can't engage in a bonk without some perv getting a camera out!

In any country where prostitution is the main attraction, seems rather ironic to fuss over a legitimate adult couple having sxx on the beach. Perhaps it angers the locals as they would rather see men comming in alone and patron all the "health parlours" or the female "tour guides ? " 😂

The problem is not the guy filming it, but putting it online.

Perhaps they were from Iceland !

Pity I wasn`t there.....I,d have asked the chap if he needed any help....just being a good Samaritan LOL

plenty of cheap rooms in Thailand better than al fresco sex on the sand.

There would need to be complaints to the police from the sexual offenders about those people making the videos first, the police can't act if they weren't there, can they?

Furthermore, the bystander should be investigated for evasion of privacy and distribution of porn. Most probably a big joke for the bystander ... not so much if he got prosecuted.

Your sex education never got past missionary?

The smart way is to have sex on a secluded beach, far away from any onlookers, so the weirdos can't record such acts. If someone is doing it in plain view of the public, call the police and let them do their jobs. There are many islands in Thailand one can go to for seclusion.

Better than watching beach workers Pi $$ ing up tye Wall on beach, get down to Patong Souh beach Pier, it stinks of Urine, give a nice welcome to the Cruise tourists, first Impressions of Phuket...

A couple have some rumpy pumpy in dark on a beach, so what... Sort the umpteen other issues out first, it care about islands image

Absolutely correct... depriving short time hotel rooms of business is shocking.

Don't know about you guys, but is i were nearby, I would told those horney monkies to go get a room,no need for such display of disregards to others around.

A re enactment would be worth watching but would the BIB's attending be issued with boxing gloves before the action began.

Troll post removed @AdolfZ despite multiple warnings, you again show that you lack the capacity to follow forum rules and just continue to troll. One more post, like that and your account will be permanently closed.

If you need to ask...

I recommend not partaking in such activity in Hua Hin' as the last time I went to the beach I sat on an ants nest, flesh eating one's from memory 🤔

The authorities definitively should take action. Against people who sneakily film other people. In this particular case even more so, because shooting porn is illegal.

A recent story from my area. A couple was sunbathing naked at a naturist beach. A man arrived alone, lay down right opposite them, and blatantly stared at the woman's genitals. The couple, far from pleased, left the beach, the woman feeling uncomfortable. Could one of the many experts on this site perhaps offer some moral guidance on this story?
