With all these horror stories about immigration, I have to question the circumstances and if they are true. It seem if a person is nice to the Thai official,they will return the compliment. If somebody is rude to them, they deserve everything they get.

 

If one got wise with a US official they would end up in prison for a long time. Does your country allow Thais entry without restrictions

I have been traveling in and out of the country about 12 - 15 time a year for a while. I am always well presented on entry and have all documentation at hand if needed. Once I have been questioned at length in a polite yet drawn out manner.

 

Once I have been spoken to in a strong and terse manner from an officer who simply did not bother to read my visa or was interested in what I had to say. She just kept saying in a loud voice that I was coming into the country too many times. I was taken to a more senior person briefly who never spoke to me, and then on to his superior who had one click glance at my visa, which has specific descriptions of what I do in the country and she began to apologise profusely.

 

I ไม่เป็นไร'd it away with a smile and went on my way. But the original officer must have had one hell of a bad day that day.

Had my first "situation" when crossing at Pedang Besar this time around, turned out that the Malaysians had let me out into no mans land without an exit stamp!

 

Having a bad knee and luggage I could not help complaining a bit and asking how far back I had to go...

 

Think this one officer pestered everyone, including not having any immigration slips available in the open area - but it was probably all a ruse to shake the right people up. She really tried to intimidate me, but just sitting there and calming myself down might have done the trick - she only had one question which was to verify that I stay in Nonthaburi.

 

There was some thai music playing, one of the other officers was happily singing along - and as soon as she stamped me in she went STRAIGHT from abuse to singing along, almost in the middle of a sentence ???? Then back to "get out of here", haha...

One god tip: there is an immigration desk in the airside area after immigration at Suvarnabhumi, this might be a good place to ask about stuff in an open and polite manner... 

A few trips ago I was worried about my visa exemptions, and had a very nice officer check my passport & online file ???? She told me I would be OK even with exemptions, but recommended SETV, all valuable advice and in agreement with most info shared here!

With feds at entry points?  No - unless you made a violent-threat or instigated violence.  With local USA-cops, sure, anything is possible - beat you up and say you attacked them, etc.  But that's especially true for citizens.

No, but anyone who sneaks in or overstays can stay and work forever - even break laws that would get citizens in far more trouble (like using fake federal documents, obtaining plea-bargains to reduce felony charges, etc).  If we break the laws here, they throw the book at us.

 

But most importantly, most Thais can earn more money in an illegal job in the USA than a legal job in Thailand, whereas we can earn more from the lowest-paying job in the USA, than an illegal job in Thailand.  This is why it's not at all a valid comparison.  The motivational factors are literally inverted. 

 

We come to spend money in Thailand - not take jobs illegally and send paycheck-money out of the country.   That is why, until very recently, we were welcome to spend our money here - because our foreign-currency spending literally creates jobs out of nothing.  Corruption has changed the situation with immigration - but the economic-math hasn't changed.

BS....unless you threaten them, they aren't going to do much, it's almost a given that US citizens will get "wise" with US officials....its in our DNA!!! LOL

Not true. There is a due process for caucasians. If you're a colored person, they can come up with different excuse to lock you up. But there are enlightened and intellectual people and organizations like ACLU that can help you. Thailand is an undemocratic country and it lacks  intellectualism.

Not to most Thais but to Thais who have personal achievement and can prove that they won't be perpetual tourists in the USA, there are no restrictions.

Most people who bring dollars to Thailand are not because of their personal achievement but due the genetic lottery they won by being born in the West. And they bring dollars to strengthen Baht that destroys formal export economy (65% of the economy) of Thailand. They spend money to support informal economy where the government doesn't get any revenue (informal economy does not pay tax and perpetual tourists don't pay income tax). They help in perpetuating a vicious foreign currency dependent informal economy that  destroys the formal export economy by making baht stronger.
 

So the comparison is BS in IMO
