Personally Thailand now has along way to go in returning to something resembling Thai Democracy, it certainly isn't black and white as Mark has stated , its more of a political murky fog that hangs over the Kingdom of Thailand , history has a habit of repeating it's self, what's instore for Thailand in the years to come is perfectly clear.   

I'm sure that the Democrats will join Paleng Pratcharat and the Senate to give Phrayut the 376 votes he needs to become the next PM.  However, I wouldn't be surprised if Parliament ends up being split 50-50 or with a majority of the MPs being opposed to Phrayut. 

 

If the elected government is split, with a minority supported PM vs and majority of MP who oppose him, the army will probably use the ineffective, deadlocked government as an excuse for the next coup.

Perhaps Army Chief Apirak foresee that situation and thus that coup hint. Key is his loyalty and what the big guy want. Prayut is dispensable and he don't control the military. Very realistic scenario when the pro democracy forms the majority in Parliament and has the "no confidence" power against the prime minister or individual minister. .
