Being too nice and getting taken advantage of.

whenever I need meds I have to see a stupid doctor and get blood pressure done just so they can look at a form my Australian doctor printed for me.

In your case it was probably an administrative error you picked up on and you had a choice, cheat yourself out of 220b or like 5 beers or correct the error with a bit of uncomfortable assertiveness. I would have also prefered those 5 beers

Where can you five beers for 220 baht in Thailand or Australia?

answer 7/11!!! Have great time on the pavement. I must admit I've enjoyed the ambience of sitting with alcoholics from time to time.

But not for a long time.

The price was about 600 baht then they added a 220 baht charge. I questioned them on it and it was waived. If I said nothing I would have had to pay.

This sort of overcharging and/or incompetent billing happens all the time here. Check everything and always be prepared to politely point out errors.

As for being happy to query bills of 220B, I would query a bill of 2B if I thought it was incorrect. I dont have a Thai wife (and I dont want one) so I dont have to care about whether she is losing face or not.

I also dont care about what the people I am querying think about me, any more than I care about what a crack in the pavement thinks about me when I tread on it.

You can also buy them for that price in BigC, and take them home in your car and drink them while sitting in a nice armchair in a nice condo listening to nice music and enjoying a nice sea view. That's what I do anyway.

Learning the ropes makes negotiating so much easier. Speaking the language is the key.

Nonsense.   My Thai is very good and I am well known in my village.  There is not a day goes by when I am shopping that someone doesn't try a scam price on me.

Sounds really lonely and depressing.  You really should get a Thai wife. At least she can bring you the beer from the fridge.

It may sound that way but I can assure you that it isn't. The idea of sharing my living space with anyone - of any nationality - is complete anathema to me and I would not even consider doing it at any price.

And standing up to get the beer from the fridge is good exercise.

Clexane

alternative name:

Enoxaparin sodium is an anticoagulant medication. It is used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism including during pregnancy and following certain types of surgery. It is also used in those with acute coronary syndrome and heart attacks.

you could just take GARLIC with every meal and no need for this chemical crap

look at this dudes

Possible side effects of Clexane
  • Bleeding. ...
  • Pain and irritation at the injection site.
  • Blood clots which form a solid swelling at the injection site (haematoma).
  • Decrease in the number of platelets in the blood (thrombocytopenia).
  • Major bleeding (haemorrhage), for example in the abdomen or inside the skull.

Yes... I should just take Garlic with every meal... because the Medical Specialists in Singapore, the UK and Thailand are wrong - Garlic is better than the Chemical Crap which is proven to significantly reduce the risk of DVT and PE to the point of virtually eliminating the risk.

Trust me, if you've faced such proximity to death you wouldn't be so cavalier about dismissing something proven to remove risk.

But.. As you posted the Possible side Effects of Clexane, I'll post the possible side effects of not taking it.

- Acute pain behind the knee and swelling due to a blood clot in the leg

- Breathing difficulties and pain in the chest

- Blood clot plugging up the pulmonary artery - Heart Attack and death

- Pulmonary Embolism and asphyxiation and death

- or if lucky DVT & Pulmonary Embolism + hospital recovery lung damage and post thrombotic syndrome of the legs

- or if incredibly lucky DVT & Pulmonary Embolism + hospital recovery and no lasting issues (In mu case).

Medical stats show that 1/3rd of people who suffer a Pulmonary Embolism die within 90 seconds.

But.. go ahead - take your Garlic... I'll stick to the chemical crap which is proven.

Glad you have recovered and are taking care of yourself with a trust in modern medicine which has come about from hundreds of years of very smart people dedicating their lives in hospitals and laboratories to finding treatments for diseases that ail us.

I don't know about garlic but ignoring idiots with magic cures certainly is essential to a long life.

What is wrong with questioning something?

i think your dead right, i had a similar charge they said it was service charge for the nurse who always want to take your blood pressure, i said i did not have my blood pressure taken as i knew it was ok, then said it was a service charge and i had to pay it, to be honest i let it go and paid it. i wish i had been a bit more like you then and stuck to my guns, it is just a rip off and we are all being suckered by it. good on you !

Your girlfriend doesn’t love u.

Its your 220 bht so she doesn’t care about it. Your just making a fuss in her eyes however if she had to pay each hospital bill her self then likely she would dispute the doggy bill as well.

her offer to pay the 220 was not genuine.

That my analysis of the story.

a good gf would always back u up in these situations

i think your spot on on all counts.

I can get 15 beers for 220bht in almost any bar in Cambodia, or 10 bottles in many bars in VIetnam.

(Angkor draft 50c/pint, Saigon Green 15,000dong/450ml)

Making a scene over discounted items in a 7-11 - you know how to live on the edge !

Is your Mrs stood behind you head in her hands quietly weeping while you embarrass yourself over 5baht ?

Why would I care what a woman thinks? About anything?

They do as they're told or find a new employer.

Good on ya! BRAVO! You did the right and proper thing and they hate that. So do the Thai sympathizers here!

It's LOS...Land of Scams...and pays to stay vigilant. Ignore the many bleeding heart Thai sympathizing apologists who think the Thais can do no wrong. Been here a quarter century and have determined they can almost do no right...even when unintentional. :coffee1:

Agreed, no wonder Thais think white men are fools, letting yourself be overcharged for anything anywhere just makes you look stupid.

I am not always into bargaining so I have asked my Thai female friend to buy the item for me figuring she would be good at bargaining.. She, very solidly Middle Class, does not bargain. But she checks all restaurant bills.

I find the western insistence of the principle of being right can sometimes backfire in dealing with Thai people.. Everything must be taken in context. The error amount, the place, the computer system, the person administering, the mood all figures in the fixing of the problem.

I have had occasion of finding some insects like big black ant and small roach in my food in upmarket restaurants. Pointed out the situation to the serving staff. Manager or manageress came apologizing and discounted out the food item in the final bill. Seeing it is not a big deal, so long as the restaurant management are aware of the problem and hopefully taken steps to reduce such incidents, my missus always insists on paying the entire bill including the discounted item. Her logic ? I don’t want people to think that we are trying to get a free meal... this is thai face for you.

The problem is that I am not Thai. I wouldn’t expect a Thai to change their cultural norms, so they shouldn’t be surprised that I don’t care to change mine. It’s funny how “Thai culture” only gets rolled out when it is to their advantage ... Farang bill stuffing, take care family, sin sod for divorcee, etc.
