The irony that I can point out English only in this forum but not in the USA. Are you saying Captainjack didn't post what a hellhole Colombia is before moving on to Mexico City?

Correct. He's never been to Colombia. Please take your posts on that topic to the appropriate thread.

The US does need to secure the southern border and a free-for-all is just not OK in the now.
The issue right now is a wave from Central America. They are mostly seeking asylum which is totally legal to apply for. Right now the system is overwhelmed especially with children. This is indeed a humanitarian crisis. It is not an invasion.

Not really. The group coming now at the border are majority families from specific countries in Central America. Colombia is currently a major destination for refugees from Venezuela.

You realize that pretty soon people from those places are going to be coming up through that way right? Central America is now not part of LA?

So there is an emergency is what you are saying?

Whatever you call it a wall won't solve it and it is the job of congress to fund projects, not the executive branch. I call it a humanitarian crisis because of the unusual volume of families and children and the lack of resources to deal with that.

From Venezuela? I think minimal. Just based on the geography. No road between Colombia and Panama.

Well that won't stop anybody. They can use boats.  The real issue is will Panama just let them in to march on through? If Panama defends it's border will be interesting. At least now people are admitting there is an emergency or crisis. This could have been handled much more easily if the dems hadn't been blocking everything for the past few months. Their obstinance is a direct result of the events going on now.

Congress won't do their job hence an emergency. Now Trump is very much justified in his call on that.

You're tripping. It's a South American issue and a big one.

Lets focus on what's real at the southern border. Largely about some Central American countries.

Trump has been found to be with in his legal rights to carry on. Obama is the one that made doing such things a precedent. Checkmate.

Hardly.

Until they are changed Trump can do what he wants. Good luck getting the laws through the senate. The congress failed to act so Donald stepped in for them.

We can go back and forth. Trump is doing it. The courts have not stopped him. Actions speak louder than words.

Trump's action will be challenged in Court. It's not a done deal even though trump has been stacking the Courts. From the outside looking in it does come across trump is generating an awful lot of damage to domestic and international Rule of Law which. IMO, will be deeply regretted by the majority of US citizens.

It is pretty much recognized as an emergency or crisis now. There will no longer be any grounds to strike down what Trump is doing. It was obvious this was going to happen if we kept the border undefended and continued with catch and release.

People in Central America need to see people they know being sent back so the word on the street is you will not get unfettered access to the USA just for stepping across the border.

Trump has created the current border issues by way of his own policies. The guy is incompetent.

Trump isn't the reason these people are desperate to leave Central America. There are only so many things you can blame Trump for. The dems sat there waiting for Mueller thinking Trump would be impeached and now there is a crapstorm at the border that could have easily been prepared for.

People have literally been saying this is what would happen for months.

In one of life's many ironies, there's a multi-page thread right here on TV for those ex-pats looking for an alternative to Thailand and focusing on Central and South America. Go figure

What? evidence for your claim to link the Muller stuff to border control.

There is no link to common sense. The dems have used Mueller to delay and prevent any policy Trump has ever had. They have done a great amount of damage to the negotiating power of the USA in regards to trade deals etc.

You can't sit there and pretend the dems were going to play ball on any matter and in particular the USA border. This is a direct result of the dems and their unwillingness for any compromise. Not one dollar for a wall that is an immorality.

The worst of it is they have left the DACA kids to all hang as they could have had a deal.
