Do away with all this visa nonsense for visitors from countries you want - simple as that!

I - for one - dont travel to Vietnam for precisely that reason; I am not willing to go through a bureaucratic paper race if there is alternative. For me: Cambodia - on arrival; Burma - electronic; Laos - no visa required ....... go figure!

You arrive in Thailand - unlucky day and queues from the airport to the seaport, grouchy, unfriendly and non-English speaking immigration officers - AFTER you got your VOA?

Where are you getting these figures that tourism is in decline in Thailand, Indonesia and India. Any statistics show a year on year growth.

What people are "freaked out to come here now"?

Wow ... 3 things I learned through my business career was 1. Lies 2. Damn Lies and finally 3. Statistics .... devalue the Thai Baht and maybe ... Just maybe .. You will get tourist return .... the place is dead at the moment and has been for last 18 months

"Where are you getting these figures that tourism is in decline in Thailand" Not from TAT that's for sure! But probably from looking up and down the empty streets in various tourist destinations!

"What people are "freaked out to come here now"? Anybody intending to retire here from the UK for starters!

The london embassy website says single entry 60 days is £30. The £150 Is for a METV, valid for six months. You dont pay anything for a 30 day stay

"METV"? Sounds like a line from a Dire Straits song!

(Sorry - presume it means Multiple Entry Tourist Visa?)

I don't know, but people who choose to visit Thailand because they can save the 2000 baht VOA fee probably won't be willing or able to spend a lot while holidaying. Looks like a silly idea to go after that group in particular.

Is Indonesia now turning people away at random as well, after they have been there once or twice?

There are several options for Indonesia, one being a 12 month multiple entry business visa, permission of stay 60 days per entry not extendable. Visa4bali.com sells the sponsorship of it for about 225 USD, and there are other agencies under or around 300 USD.

From April the 1st in the uk the 90 day tourist visa goes up from £25 to £30 so i guess that the 1 year visa goes up from £120 to £150 from 1 st april 2019 thats what the guy is saying . Even coming here for 30 days now immigration ask if after 2 frequent visits they ask why you are here for work they say to me ? i am here for a visit only , and In pattaya it is getting emptier as many Europeans finding it not the same these days and many places easy to rent here as empty .

The Chinese and the Russians are 2 groups of tourists that benefit Thailand least as they mainly come in cheap package tours, eating and shopping in their countrymens's shops and restaurants - for those type of tourists a visa fee may reduce the numbers ...

TAT is aware of it and confirm it indirectly by waiving the visa fee an extended period ...

Malaysia, Laos, Malta, Vanautu, Norfolk island, China, Japan, Korea.

You forgot Portugal; good wine, great weather, beautiful scenery, attractive women (if you like brunettes that is) and a high level of English is spoken. The food, on the other hand, isn't particularly appealing - neither to the eye, nor the palate.

In general agree with you except food wise - The food is great if we remove the Piri-Piri from the table ...

What this free visa will serve? Its nothing compared to what we spend in Thailand. What is the use when we have to face squads of 30 of your soldiers stopping and humiliating visitors in the street in public by searching passports and if not in possession then escort to hotel or residence to check again.

Typical dishes include potatoes and meat (so far, so good) swimming in fat (yuck!). It really is bland swill. Considering the fact that the Portuguese sailed the seven seas, they really didn't learn how to use herbs to flavour their food.

Fish, however, they know how to cook.

I am a non-qualifying European. Would not mind e-visa but physical visa for THB 2'500 (consulate Khon Kaen, waiting two working days) or their embassy at wireless road bangkok - too complicated and time consuming .........

Yeah but you still qualify for 30 day visa exempt to phu quoc i think, not sure if you are aware.

It's like phuket 20 years ago basically. Beaches aren't bad, resorts are cheap and so is food.

https://www.phuquocislandguide.com/phu-quoc-visa/

It's visa free for every nationality it seems.

so they are only extending the waivering of the chinese 2,000 baht .....  correct ?

The VOA is here to stay .... for now.  ?

The country is only surviving on tourists. Economically it not doing at all good. The more tourists the more the Baht is in demand thus keeping the Baht strong .Billions are made out of money exchange.

Airbnb are saying bookings for Phuket are down by 34%

Could that be because AirBNB short term bookings have been ruled illegal, and the word has gotten out?  What's the total room occupancy in the area?

I go to Bali every year ,sometime twice . I don't need a visa for a 30 day stay .No visa taking up a full page in my passport. Just an

IN &OUT stamp. I don't go to countries where I need a visa to visit.

That cuts Cambodia out .

What people are "freaked out to come here now"?

Basically 90% of all TV posters are idiots. Thailand in hot season is not hotter than Germany in summer or even Norway. Spain or Greece in summer is hotter than Thailand ... same for north Africa. I would bet you find 100ds of places that are hotter: Australia, Arabia, Mongolia, central Siberia, most of China.
