Hun Manet returns from Thailand after meeting

Featured Replies

Lieutenant General Hun Manet yesterday ended his three-day trip to Bangkok to meet senior Thai military commanders to discuss cooperation and maintaining peace along the border. Cambodia and Thailand have had several border issues in the past, including a clash over Preah Vihear temple in 2010.

Lt Gen Manet, who is commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, met with Thai Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and army commander-in-chief General Apirat Kongsompong. According to a statement by the Royal Cambodia Armed Forces, the visit was to “strengthen solidarity and cooperation” between both armies, noting that the trip resulted in both sides agreeing to maintain a peaceful border.

“As good neighbours, both countries focused on strengthening and expanding relations, and increase cooperation and maintain [peace and development] along the border,” it said. Army spokesman Brigadier General Mao Phalla said Lt Gen Manet visits foreign countries to discuss cooperation.
