Was Ketamine administered for sedation only, as I don't quite understand the point about its use in shivering impairment?

It was givento keep them immobile and thus reduce risk of dislodgement of breathing apparatus.

Shivering is actually a heat producing mechanism so useful in combatting hypothermia, but given the need for these boys to be physically still while being manuevered through tight spaces with sharp jutting rocks etc, would have been undesirable
