International media are going crazy over a completely nonsense story. But, of course, one outlet posts the fake news and the others copy/paste.

“Tourists who take selfies on notorious airport beach are threatened with the death penalty by Thai officials,” trumpets the headline in Daily Mail. (‘notorious’???)

“Tourists taking beach selfies while planes take-off have angered airport chiefs in Thailand – who warned the maximum penalty for distracting pilots is the death sentence.”

That's absolutely true.

If you distracted a pilot and he crashed the plane killing everyone, it would in fact be a 'death sentence'.

As said previously, does the cockpit have a transparent floor?

Probably, if you read the Daily Mail. Not doubt designed for plane porn spotters to look up the skirts of female pilots.

There's nothing fake about it. The maximum punishment for the Air Aviation Act is the death penalty.

Anyone who breaches a restricted area along the beach would be punished under the above law. Though it's unlikely they would received the maximum punishment, airport authorities have also repeatedly invoked the death penalty as a warning.

PIA Director Monrudee Gettuphan told The Phuket News, “We are concerned about the safety of residents and tourists who come to Mai Khao Beach so we have installed speaker systems in four locations along the fence to let people know about the potential danger of this area.

“People need to stay away from the restricted zone. We want to prevent any unknown object or material injuring people, or even their hearing being damaged by the noise of the aircraft’s engines.

“The penalty for anyone failing to comply with this regulation includes the death penalty, a life sentence, or a jail term of between five to 20 years, as per the Air Aviation Act 1978,” Ms Monrudee said.

But this is not 'restricted' area. I have been there a few months ago. There was no barrier to stop folks walking along the beach. Indeed AFAIK the beach is the Kings Land and is public land.

The planned restricted area which they have been having meetings about would be under that law.

It's not necessarily fake news, it is how you interpret it.

I mean thousands of people on TV forum actually believed it was possible that smoking on the beach would lead to a year in jail.

It's more of a question of do you want to believe rather than is it true.

Rooster

How can it suddenly be fake news, when it was reported in the unspeakable paper March 8th – the page is still available when writing this comment – quoting deputy Phuket airport chief Wichit Kaeothaithiam that talked about zone and death penalty. I furthermore read the amazing story in Thaivisa, quoting The Mirror of April 5th, which was referring to the paper that cannot be named...????

The power of the media is such that fake reports, can become true and handled as such. After all we do have many an item within our hands, that perhaps started out as pure immagination,  before they became real  world class cash cows.
