OK I take you at your word, and withdraw the latter part of my last post written in irritation. There are so many arguments going on about PC, it is a minefield, and not simple. Excuse the long answer.
Wikipedia:- “The term political correctness is commonly used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society. Since the late 1980s, the term has come to refer to avoiding language or behavior that can be seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups of people considered disadvantaged or discriminated against, especially groups defined by sex or race.

In public discourse and the media, it is generally used as a pejorative, implying that these policies are excessive or unwarranted.

In the early-to-mid 20th century, the phrase "politically correct" was used to describe strict adherence to a range of ideological orthodoxies. In 1934, The New York Times reported that Nazi Germany was granting reporting permits "only to pure 'Aryans' whose opinions are politically correct."

In the 1940s the term PC was used disparagingly, to refer to someone whose loyalty to the CP line overrode compassion, and led to bad politics. It was used by Socialists against Communists, and was meant to separate out Socialists who believed in egalitarian moral ideas from dogmatic Communists who would advocate and defend party positions regardless of their moral substance.

in Britain, usage has been confined mainly to the popular press. author Robert Novak, in his essay - Political Correctness Has No Place in the Newsroom, used the term to blame newspapers for adopting language use policies that he thinks tend to excessively avoid the appearance of bias. He argued that political correctness in language not only destroys meaning but also demeans the people who are meant to be protected.”

I agree with Novak, though the problem with the tabloids, is that so often things that they are attacking are described as PC when they have nothing to do with Political Correctness, but are just things they want to demonise with a ridiculously overused negative phase. This is just bad, lazy, empty headed journalism in place of reasoned argument. People who don’t understand the background to this are encouraged to use PC as a general put down. It is not as simple as that.

As to Boris Johnson, I was not saying that he was being non PC, as in  “Insulting groups of people considered disadvantaged” for example. I was saying that he was failing in his job. He was (Unfortunately) Foreign Secretary visiting his Burmese hosts’ sacred place. As FS he should have the ability to be diplomatic, that is what the country is paying him to do, he is head of the diplomatic service. That includes having the intelligence to avoid saying things, that any fool should know, might cause offense to his hosts. That is not being PC, diplomacy is part of the job, a job that he clearly was entirely unsuited for. They say “A gentleman is only rude on purpose”, sadly Boris all too often appears to be being rude by accident.

I think straight talking is a good thing, and as I have already made clear I have no time for the whole PC thing. It has degenerated to the point where the Left and Right are both using it as a stick to beat one another with, which is just plain stupid.

A lot of copy and paste that does not help you wriggle out of it. Thank you for the requested definition:
... the term has come to refer to avoiding language or behavior that can be seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups...
Then you berate him for that very same principle that the press did: ... avoid saying things, that any fool should know, might cause offense to his hosts...
He was quoting Kipling to himself and those around him. That’s not offensive to anybody, whether the mic was on or not.
Oh so PC, with some indignant senior snowflakery thrown in for good measure.

The BBC are showing their bias again, for a country that voted to leave, they chose again 4 remain panellists. How bad can it be to have Caroline Lucas, Vince Cable and Jonathan Ashworth on the same panel. Caroline Lucas got booed for suggesting that Nigel Farage is drumming up hate by starting a Brexit Party and Vince Cable got equally booed for saying there should be another referendum.

Time for change.

John Rhys-Davis did pretty well in the guise of (a Brexiter) King Canute, but the quote of the week came from this young lady in the audience plugging the ongoing court case by The English Democrats that MSM are completely ignoring:

I have never met anyone- left wing or not- who has been driven mad (Per se) by Boris. He irritates many, and a vast number of people simply despise him. Like most British people outside the dwindling membership of the Tory party, I see him as a pompous, blundering, buffoon, whose bare faced ambition leaves him principle free, and devoid of many basic standards of decency. If he saw it in his personal interest he would dump Brexit and become an ardent remainer overnight. That is why I expect, he is not popular with Tory MPs, he is totally unreliable, and untrustworthy. This is totally separate from the Burma incident which is simply symptomatic of his inability to consider his hosts strong feelings about being colonized by what were basically a bunch of thieves with gunboats. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with being PC. The whole PC thing doesn't belong to my generation, and I think it is half baked. Essentially it is the elevation of self righteous moral posturing about sensitivity, over truth. I have no time for it, showing consideration for the feelings of others is part of being civilized, you shouldn't need PC rules to do that.

Rather poor article in the Tory magazine the Spectator, but as Randy Mice Davies famously said "He would say that, wouldn't he".

According to a leak from the 1922 committee the reason why they haven't changed the rules to get rid of May is because it's the membership of the Conservative party that votes for the new leader and their favorite is Boris.

Most of the MPs can't stand him and couldn't work under him as PM for reasons as outlined above.

So we ended up with an impasse. No one wants TM as PM as she has no answers  to the brexit problem. No one wants to risk Boris replacing her. Expect her to be still in place in October, still without any answers.

Expect the EU to give us another extension to stew in our own juices. Expect another year of impasse. Brexit has broken Britain

The MPs keep digging themselves deeper into it. Rank and file CON party membership would happily have Boris as PM. So many of the current MPs are going to be replaced at the next GE, but they are still hanging on to their seats.
Most of the UK would also have Boris as PM. While Teresa is supported by the Tory turncoats that won’t happen. Will the next vote on May’s surrender document see some Tory MPs see the error of their ways and vote in accordance with their constituents wishes, solely as an act of self preservation? A cushy job at 80k pa is not to be sniffed at.
It’s actually the Remainer MPs who have broken Brexit. Britain is still good. Plenty of Brexit MEPs in the EU and a Leave backing PM would change everything long before October.

Bottom line for me..as Home Secy..3 outa 10..as PM..a measly 1 outa 10.
Red Lines..maybe doodling in her spare time..wishing she was anywhere but No.10..or was/is the remainers master card???????.

She was absolutely useless as Home Sec too. As an even worse PM, she has been the Tory Remainer Trojan horse. Her early lies of ‘Brexit Means Brexit’ and ‘ No Deal is Better Than A Bad Deal’ have shown her true colours. Always a Remainer.

Agree with you 100%..however..probably few twists n turns to come I think.
When the Brexit Party and Ukip run riot in next months mep elections..it'll be a 2 horse race to no.10 to drag her out the back door.
Horses being 1922 squad vs white coat squad.
I honestly thought that her husband would have put his foot down .. written her resignation letter..told her to sign it and that would have bern that.
It would have and still would be an act of kindness towards the lady he loves.

Nothing in this debate makes sense.

And that comes from the leader of Great Britain.

You can lead from the front if everyone supports you.

Ms May believes she can lead from the front if no one supports her.

I think it will dawn on everyone what a dud she is.

I suspect this is the strategy, because MS May has always been a supporter to remain.

And it has cost UK taxpayers a huge fortune for Ms May to dud you.

I don't disagree with you regarding Mrs May, she has been complicit in an incredible breach of trust with the British people which I am sure will not go unrecognized at the ballot box by Leavers and many Remainers. Equally however I would blame the Conservative party for ignoring the will of the majority, on the back of the biggest democratic mandate this country has ever seen.

Thankfully the fat lady has not even ironed her gown as yet to sing.
The eu mep elections will " top " evita..aka teresa the appeasa as a 2 horses race commences..finishing line being the back door of No.10.
The 2 horses bring the 1922 committee vs the white coat mob.
Evita's actually a rather pittiful spectacle now.

The problem is May is not so much a remainer but is a xenophobe and thinks the whole purpose of brexit is to end freedom of movement. Her version of brexit delivers that and not much else.

But then the is the whole problem with brexit. When people voted for brexit they all knew what they were voting for. It's just that they may not be the same brexit as the next person who knew equally what he was voting for.

There is no one brexit that will satisfy enough people to get support to carry it through parliament.

We should have decided the destination before starting on the journey.

Ah, the one true way ....

It is fully sociopathic politics, this. Nothing can be allowed to stand in the way of their mission to burn the country down. Nothing less than the full, placing-sanctions-on-yourself Brexit will be tolerated, and any grown-up that stands in the way must be torn apart. Full, national self-suicide is the only acceptable outcome

Teebee,

17.4 million people voted LEAVE for many many different reasons.
Me..I voted LEAVE as I saw my home city Glasgow going " downhill " due to the influx of TAKERS NOT GIVERS.
I'm talking bout eu citizens from several eastern european countries.Since they arrived..the crime rate has sadly risen re the vile horrible stuff.
Eg..child prostitution..people trafficking..forced marriages..protection rackets..hard drugs etc etc.
Also very very many followers of the " religion of peace " have made Glasgow their home, immigrants from various parts of the world.
Now they want prayer rooms at colleges..islamic schools etc and expect the very financially hard-pressed Glasgow City council tax payers to fund their demands.
Can you honestly blame a Brexiteer like myself for wanting the UK OUT of the eu..
No more eu brussels directives..no more eu brussels jobworths telling the citizens of the UK what they can/cannot do etc etc.

Have a lovely day over in France..ps..viva the National Rally[emoji6]

But you can't exactly blame the EU for Muslim immigrants can you ?

However  my point is, by espousing than the only form of brexit acceptable is the "One True Brexit ™" you make any brexit unlikely.

Politicians are not entirely stupid, they know that if they deliver something that makes most of the people worse off, even if those self-same people say it is what they want, they are not going to get elected again.

There is now core of hard  no-deal brexiters who will not be satisfied with anything less.  This has split the brexiter vote, both in the country and in parliament. No one version of brexit will ever get enough votes . The referendum clumped the disparate groups of brexiter together, but now, with victory in their sights, they have split.

At some point politicians are going to realize that it's better to try to embrace a 48% remainder group, than a 30% hard brexit group and a 22% brexit deal group. Then brexit will be dead.

Which brings us back to 'no deal is better than a bad deal'.  May was correct when stating this, but she changed her (pretense) attitude 180 degrees - to 'a VERY bad deal is better than no deal'.......

"Any" form of brexit, never mind how appalling the 'deal' - (as per the eu and May plan to deliver BRINO!) is completely unacceptable IMO.

Edit - Especially as the referendum result was to leave!  Certainly not to 'leave in name only'.....

You seem to forget that leaving with no deal was the self harming threat that Brexiteers said would force the EU to beg the UK for a deal.

The EU didn’t beg and now Brexit zealots wasn’t to commit the self harm no deal rather than admit defeat.

As the uk 'negotiators' quickly agreed to all the eu demands, on even the eu 'negotiating list'  (????) - it comes as no suprise that the eu realised the uk 'negotiators' either had no interest in leaving the eu or, they were being over-ridden by 'more important' people who were determined to remain within the eu.....

Consequently, it's hardly suprising that the eu didn't bother to genuinely negotiate.

It's pretty obvious that the supposedly 'top' UK negotiators were being over-ridden, as they resigned - stating this to be the case.
