Popular Post jim320
I very recently had to go to immigration in Pattaya ( I say Pattaya for the trolls ) I already have a 1 year stamp ( not a visa ) . but wanted a letter for the bank so I could open a account. Whilst there I was shocked by the behaviour of the non Thais there. Basically I mean us, asking for visas, stamps etc. There was shouting and screaming, plus the expression - " That is not how we do it in my country" My issue was sorted, the person who uttered that remark is on this site ???? 3

Who woulda thunk. At Chaeng Watthana, over ~ 16 years (ext/stay-re-entry-90 day), with what must be 24+ visits equaling close to one hundred hours queuing, I do not ever recall seeing any foreigners yelling, but obviously, that's just my data point. 3

I am afraid I have in Pattaya. Also a good smattering of those whining, occasionally justified as one can get sense of being pxssed around from pillar to post. Not everyone there has strolled in from a nearby home. Usually I have my ducks in a row and things get done smoothly, as I know what is required. But recently, for example, Residence Certificates, I am at a loss as I get into a chicken and egg scenario. If you want to see a show, sit at Chonburi immigration for an hour or so. Always some/several Falang arguing, complaining, being obnoxious with staff. And it is 99% of the time their ( I did not know) fault. It can be a disgusting display and embarrassing. Hey, when new imm. rules come up, does not surprise me at all.... jim320
Looking back I would say Jomtien immigration do a very good job. Because I have visited Thailand almost yearly for the last 20 years I know that it is pointless to get mad, so I always present a calm and polite personality. ( Though inside I could kill lol ) . But looking from the other side I can understand why some people lose it. For example Immigration , with the TM30 are quite happy that I have proven where I live BUT if you want to open a bank account? You have to get a residence certificate!! I Having a house or wife must test ones limits. lol To sum up I can understand why people get upset but it is shocking when it happens in front of you.

namatjira
It’s very much a cultural thing..jai yen yen.....Thais admire polite people, a clear head is always the winner, anger is confusion and not admired....it’s not hard to do, speak softly and forget about the way they do things back home....treat them with respect and you will find they will treat you with respect.....lose your head and get angry, jai ron.....and things will not go so smoothly..a smile goes a long way, and dress with respect....everybody likes polite people, nobody likes angry people......all quite simple......Thai immigration is not out there to give anyone a hard time, I enjoy my visits there.... The thing I have come to learn over the years is that I no longer give a flying fig what Thais admire or think, as usually it makes no sense anyway. Sometimes it is better just to be who you are and stop worrying about pleasing or keeping happy what is essentially an immature 5 year old child. 3 1 4
Popular Post rwill
LOL. It doesn't matter at all how they do it in your country. Besides how would you know how they do it in your country as you don't have to go to immigration. 2 1 1

timendres
I have seen obvious frustration. Sometimes near tears. Impolite arguing. Rarely shouting. But one time at CW, someone starting shouting loudly, "I want to see the soldier! Where is the soldier!", while people were ducking under their desks. Kasane
Now imagine a Thai yelling/screaming at an American immigration officer. Will be escorted out if not arrested for causing a public nuisance. I wonder when Thais will level up with western standards. 2

scorecard
Even worse, waiting at Pattaya city hall for a document of family member, in comes a Brit dressed in tiny flapping running shorts, his 'equipement' hanging out on one side in the mess internal briefs and n oversize singlet with copious body and underarm hair all revealed, with his girl, also very scantily dressed. He proceeds to front up, in your face and very loud and aggressive, to several government officers, yelling 'i want a Thai passport right now and I don't leave here until I get it, today'. Several people try to explain to him that Thai passports are not issued at that office, and they don't have any new Thai passports at that office, so it's impossible to issue one to him. He refuses to listen and start to kick furniture and walls, doors etc., and repeat his loud angry demands 'I want a Thai passport right now....' After a few minutes several cops arrive and have to manhandle him (and his girl) to the floor and handcuff them, then quickly gone.
Jaxxper
Just got an extension to my retirement visa today. The first since the new rules came in. The whole process of submittal of passport and documents , including the visit to the bank took 45 minutes on a Monday which are typically busy anyway and right after Songkran. After passport pick up I went on to get my 90 day check in done and a re entry permit made. I was in immigration for just over an hour, so over the two days lets call it an hour and twenty minutes. I think the service at Jomtien has improved over time and if there is an issue just calmly ask what the problem is, how to fix it and they will tell you. In my view , no good spitting the dummy out wherever you are! As was noted its very often a misunderstanding on the applicants part. Also don't believe its good form to turn up in a Chang singlet, unshaven and with a touch of BO.

If they acted reasonable and civilized, there would seldom be any conflict. Instead, you get duplicity and dishonesty as well as random application of laws depending on location. All this nonsense about dressing smartly, in Jomtien it doesnt matter. As long as you dont wear a sleeveless T Shirt you are ok. I always wear a polo shirt, longish shorts just past the knee and clean trainers. I often laugh at some farang in their dress shirts and long trousers (pants for you Americans) and see them sweating their **se off. You get treated the same whatever you wear. 1
smedly
I expect more of this The problem is when we have rules imposed that make absolutely no sense at all and having to comply to those rules to the absolute, then we see people that are paying through the nose to circumvent the rules and getting no hassle at all, IMO immigration have brought this growing anger and discontent on themselves Remember we have people now presenting themselves to immigration that have no idea anything has changed Edited April 23, 2019 by smedly

Sounds like bs to me - Jomtien is probably the most corrupt IO in Thailand and if someone get upset then so be it. A friend of mine was asked for 10k to switch from Marriage extension to Retirement extension - let me know if you want the number of the IO that asked for it ... Usually the tantrum throwers grow out of these behaviors as they finish primary school and the remainder move to Thailand and join Thai Visa. Throwing a hissy fit is hardly a demonstration of your supposed maturity. The only reason I ever dread a visit to Immigration is the mass of unwashed, uncouth farang milling about ( although 90% of those present seem to be presentable and behave as rational adults). If anything I'm reasonably sure that the Thai officers are able to figure out who these dullards are and find it amusing to see them turn bright red and make sounds like a stuck pig. This advice needs an appendix for Tip 8 for farang who haven't moved on beyond toddler behavior. Edited April 23, 2019 by Suradit69 1
