Also most of the so called working farangs here are the ones that are stealing jobs from the thais ie websites developers, so called digital online marketing professionals, media companies etc and most of them do not support local thais etc. Had a bad experience with two media companies, one based in Pattaya and another in Phuket, both were reluctant to help a thai start-up get coverage despite even wanting to pay as these scumbags felt threatened by the thai start-up and one , the one based in Pattaya even tried to steal some ideas from the thai start-up. Already in the midst of gaining more support from agencies and top level thais and soon even online to rid thailand of these scum! There are some nice westerners who have contributed greatly to thailands development and also some that are living here as expats with their western wives and families and are decently behaved and are really welcomed in this country, but again these are only a minority. They don't care where it comes from. As far as population goes, Less than 10% of Chinese have passports, which means the other 90% is not coming. At the World Economic Forum in Davos yesterday, Ctrip CEO Jane Sun predicted the number of Chinese passport holders would grow to 240 million by 2020. Currently, about 120 million Chinese citizens hold passports, about 8.7 percent of the population. Jan 26, 2018. I had a student who will Never get a passport because her daughter never came back from a trip to Canada in the 1990s. The government is punishing her for her daughter's decision. Many don't want a passport because they do not earn enough to travel anywhere. Don't believe the hype! All of them are not coming to Thailand. There's Dubai, USA markets, European markets, South American markets and Oceana markets. They are still heading to those destinations. Don't forget Singapore. Look at hotels, Western tourists mostly stay in cheap motels and hostels while Asians dont mind paying for decent hotels. Its the same in Western countries too, you see more Chinese tourists and they are willing to spend! The world has changed and everywhere depends on Chinese tourists. I can guarantee I have seen the good; the bad; and the ugly among both foreigners and locals. You seem to think all of 'old' people are poor; lie and cheat; sit in bars all days and are generally people of ill repute. Actually what I see is much different- I see most of the Foreign elderly as well to do; living quiet lives; interested in the theatre or Arts and those who are married taking care of Thai children sired by runaway Thai fathers and assisting other extended family members. Some of us do sometimes stop in our local pub to have some conversation; enjoy a meal or have a beverage. i didn't know that was against the law or caused a stir from anyone. The majority of people I see interacting with the local population are polite; respectful and simply live and let live. You obviously have a very low opinion of Westerners. While I have seen many Westerners drunk; bar girls in tow; and generally make a fool of themselves- it is a minority and usually in places such as Pattaya or Phuket which seem to welcome this type of behavior. I don't stereotype someone because of their age; skin color; ethnic background or anything else. Due to fakes, local business restrictions etc. Many Chinese buy hermes bags for example just to resell them in china.They artificially limit the amount of products/country for price gauging reasons... Becoming a Chinese protectorate/shopping mall/cheap labor force over the next few decades might be a net good for the country, who knows? As if that process hadn't already begun before the tourists. I'm sure they'll treat your country's culture and what's left of your natural beauty about as well as they have their own... Maybe you haven't been in Terminal 21 Pattaya but the place is loaded with Chinese buying up all kinds of stuff and putting it in wheeled luggage they tow around with them. Even if they go to a lot of shops/restaurants owned by Chinese that live here those Chinese spend their money buying goods, property, food, fuel, cars, etc here so the money still trickles down to Thai. Even if farangs spend more per person than Chinese the sheer numbers who are arriving will outweigh the westerner's amounts. Also, I bought a condo in Jomtien and was waiting for a van to pick me up and take me back to my car. 5---6 Chinese couples came in looking to buy a condo. One woman asked how much and then opened an attache case and took out stacks of US dollars and paid cash for it. A lot have far more money than the average westerner. My cousin in California ( a real estate agent) tells me Chinese are coming over and buying up property all over the state driving home prices up.
