Taiwan man feels the heat at Don Muang - smuggled 7 kgs of heroin in cooling powder

One of Thailand's top policemen was on hand at Don Muang airport yesterday as a Taiwanese national was arrested with 7.2 kilos of heroin.

Chern Kwan Lin, 38, was about to board a flight to his home country.

The drugs were concealed in 18 tins of St Luke's Prickly Heat powder contained within two boxes.

The powder is popular with Thais to cool down the body.

Lin denied everything saying he was paid 30,000 baht to take the powder back to Taiwan.

Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakan, deputy chief of the Royal Thai Police, said the arrest was made after information received from drugs suppression counterparts in Taiwan that a gang was operating between Thailand and Taiwan.

This was the latest after several successful smuggling attempts and the drug would be worth 100 times what it cost in Thailand if it reached the streets of Taiwan.

Lin had arrived in Bangkok on a tourist visa on April 13th. He was arrested in the departure lounge.

His arrest led a further drugs suppression team to raid a hotel room in Soi Rang Nam in downtown Bangkok where Khai Lin Si, another Taiwanese, was arrested with 8.8 kilos of heroin.

The total bust of 16 kilos would be worth 500 million baht in Taiwan.

I think they meant a "TOPs" policeman was there because all they are good for is stacking supermarket shelves.

They acted on a tip off from Taiwan, and as the gang was operating already it suggests that they didn't normally think 18 tins of powder was anything unusual to carry out ?

I wonder if this Taiwanese dude had snuck it in before? Maybe he was returning it to the seller in Thailand because of poor quality. ( sanook)

What's to deny? He confessed his crime already.

Why do people do this? and Thailand of all places. 16kg will be death penalty for sure

Yes but on the other hand if he got away with it he would have been richer than his wildest dreams. It's a gamble some desperate people take.

Well at least he was lowering the burden of drugs in Thailand with 7.2 kilos less of that poison in the country, had he been able to take it out !!:cheesy:

Don't get this brand anywhere near your "privates". If you do you'll soon know why it's called "prickly"

Privates?? The girls at the front of the Nana Hotel assure me mine is a Major!

Very lucky for that top policeman he was on hand right at that vital moment in front of the cameras to arrest the man. Not so lucky he didn't have enough time to prepare a huge diagrammatic banner with life size self posing and some aggressive pointing.

I am starting to miss BJ and his banners. Please bring him back!
