You can buy a Dell Dimension XPS 700 for about 4000 US$ with Vista Performance of 5.4.

Vista has a build in Performance Monitor to rate the Computer.

The scale of the Windows Experience Index ranges from 1.0 to 5.9.

A higher base score generally means that your computer will perform better and faster

than a computer with a lower base score, especially when performing more advanced and resource-intensive tasks.

With Components, all available in Pantip, u can reach the same Performance:

Case LianLi PC101A silver 1) 2) 6'800

Powersupply Enermax ELT400AWT 1) 3'500

Intel CPU Dual Core2 E6600 12'800

2x DDR2-533 Kingstone KVR533D2N4/1G 8'120

Mainboard Asus P5B Deluxe 7'810

VGA GF7600GT 256MB Fatal1ty 6'890

HD Seagate 320GB SATA II, 300Mc,16MB 4'290

DVD R/W Lite-On LH-20A1P 1'540

Total 51’900 Baht.

1) Cheaper Case and Power supply will reduce the total few kBaht.

2) The Fan-Frame for the Display-Card must be slightly modified.

The Vista Results = 5.4

Processor: 5.4

Memory: 5.6

Graphics: 5.9

GamingGraphics: 5.4

Hard disk: 5.7

Without Overclocking and the PC is really quite…

I would replace the LiteOn DVD with an ASUS DRW-1814BLT SATA DVD drive, available for 1580 baht at Panthip.

There are plenty of cheaper Lian-li cases that would also fit in well with such a system. Overclock an E4300 and if you are a gamer use the combined savings to upgrade to an 8800GTS 320MB video card. Then add another 2000 baht for an aftermarket cooler like a Zalman 9700.

The only advantage with the Dell is the warrantee, and that the price of the OS is bundled in with it. Of course if you're capable of building the pc yourself you are much less likely to ship it back to Dell for warantee work anyways.

One thing I don't recommend is try to build it yourself if you don't have the knowledge of hardware. I've seen a lot of people spend tons of money on expensive gear that doesn't work very well this way.

In the next few months, a new line of Core 2 Duo Intel processors will become available in the mass market. If you can afford to wait, you will be rewarded.

technology always evolves to a next step. core 2 duo processors, quad processors and on and on. at one point u just have to make a purchase decision regardless of what is ahead.

I had two very bad Asus drives. So wouldn't do that.

Had also a bad Plextor, after giving up with the good brands I bought the cheapest LG burner I got and it works fine.

LG seems remarkably robust. had a pioneer and a lemmel. they just made me cry. now i got an LG and things are working just fine.

I have had great experiences with LG gear as well. After throwing away three Liteon drives, which I will never touch again.

LG make the best value burners on the market, l have several myself but l also like ASUS burners as they're nice and quiet. I'd like an LG SATA burner and an ASUS SATA dvd rom as that's the current IDE setup l have. In Thailand the problem is that the only SATA dvd l've seen is the ASUS. They seem to have stolen a march on the oposition as they are the most available burner in Asia. The only other brand l've seen is the Pioneer and that is made by ASUS. LiteON l think are made locally and even though they've been available in America for a few months there's no sign of them here but l know many people have had mixed experiences with them. You'd think LG would have SATA burners readily available but last time l looked they were still only available in Korea and Japan with no indication when they will make it to Thailand or Singapore unless they're all going into the big brand name computers.

The next round of new CPUs and price reductions should occur within 2 months.
