Two out of three Thai workers are happy at work

Most Thai workers say they have a happy work life but are hoping the new government will boost the minimum wage and provide better medical welfare benefits.

Just some of the results of a recent National Institute of Development Institution (NIDA) poll.

The poll was conducted around the country to gauge worker ‘happiness’ and ask what they expect from the government to improve their lives (numbers rounded to the nearest .1%).

2 out of 3 poll results are made up.

And statistically, 6 out 7 dwarfs aren't happy !!!

Not sure about Thai dwarfs ? They are probably all happy

-From my observation if a Thai doesn’t like his or her job, they just quit before having the security of another job. Eventually this suddenly unemployed person ( by choice) will float to another job doing the same thing. There is no incentive to work your butt off when the lazy guy doing nothing gets the same minimum wage. As Thai culture is different from Japan, China, or the West, their work ethic is also different. Some Thais employees may be working 10 hours a day but a Japanese or German could do the same work load in 6 hours. “Sanook” is part of Thailand’s culture but it seems it has been replaced with looking at their phones 24/7 while eating their tum-yum soup.

  • I'd like to see the actual demographics such as gender, age, industry, location, income-skill-education levels of the poll participants that would lend more credibility to the poll.
  • The questionnaire was apparently designed by Mahidol University's Institute for Population and Social Research so I'd expect that such detailed demographic information was likely collected.

Curiously, a similar poll by NIDA in 2018 showed that almost half of the respondents admitted that the Prayut government’s “Return the Happiness to the People” policy has not made them happier as there have not been any changes for the better for their livelihood after four years and six months since the military take-over. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/poll-shows-almost-half-feel-they-are-not-better-off-after-4-years-under-junta/
