Officers from the Royal Australian Navy and representatives from the local Australian Consulate joined with Rassada Municipality officials and staff for the ‘Big Cleaning Day’.

This morning in Rassada, led by Rassada Mayor Phudit Raksarat, officials launched the activity together with officers and crew from the Australian Navy’s HMAS Canberra and HMAS Newcastle, and delegates from the Australian Consulate General Phuket.

Rassada Mayor Phudit says, “This year is the year of the coronation of HM King Rama X. The Australian Navy and Australian Consulate General joined together, in the spirit of our nations’ long term friendship, to celebrate the occasion and the importance of being community volunteers. It was wonderful to have officers from the Australian Navy joining us today. ”

Ridiculous for foreigners having to pick up garbage while they are in Thailand.

A nice team building exercise that would be largely unnecessary if the population would learn to dispose of their trash properly and then the trash collectors didn't dump it in the ocean.

Big cleanup at Nai Harn today, well done to all involved, it's a pitty the moron tambon officials don't have the brains to add garbage bins next to the signs at the beach that say "No dumping rubbish here".

'Over here'- I didn't realise they had sailed up to Udon Thani.

You clearly have no understanding of what navies do. 'Wargames' is a term used by movies and the Press. These 'games'become a reality for navies, often with sad consequences. Some of the drills practiced will have saved lives in recent incidents involving both the Norwegian and US navies.

Once again 2 people completely unaffected by this story who just need to vent. Well done the Aus Navy for contributing to the community, unlike others. who sit back and whinge.

Indeed, whingers going to be whingers.

They are here for legit navy exercises around Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Making sure that they stay friends.

If they got their way, the same whingers no doubt will be moaning about the Chinese warships parking just outside Australian territorial waters.

So with an election looming the Australian Government has nothing better to do than send our "Semi Serviceable" folitilla over here so as the crew can clean Phuket.

Ya gotta wunda!

They spread good will, but there is also a joint naval exercise, not only involving Thailand... geez, you're a whinger mate.

No no no.... it's a Chinese "research" ship... and only one, not many.

Thais do seem very keen to get foreigners even our servicemen to clean up all the mess on the streets and beaches.

Why spend money on cleaning crews when foreigners are willing to do all the work for free.

Makes sense.
