I'm currently working for a BOI company with a work permit and one-year extension of stay, and I plan on changing job to another BOI company in the same city (Chiang Mai).

I'm confused about the procedure to make the change without having to leave the country to re-apply for another non-B visa. I've read post s about changing jobs already, but they all seem to be about non-BOI companies.

BOI approval apparently requires three steps:

1. Request position with BOI (2 to 3 weeks)
2. Add profile to position (Around 2 weeks)

3. Receive work permit from employment office, and get an extension of stay from immigration (one day)

I've been told I need to cancel work permit before step 2, but I understand that once I cancel my work permit, my extension of stay would immediately become invalid, and I'd then need to apply for a 7-day extension of stay. However, since "adding profile to position" takes around two weeks before I receive my work permit and get an extension of stay, the 7-day extension is surely not enough. Or am I missing something? Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.

I managed to get a clear answer from the BOI itself:

You can continually staying in Thailand by do following steps
1. New BOI company has to apply for a position for you (in case new company never have this position before or have position but already full occupied)
2. After getting approval for step 1, current company has to submit a resign/leave request for you to BOI. One important thing, your visa need to have at least 15 days to be expired.
3. After getting approval for step 2, new BOI company can apply to BOI to put you on the position according to step 1.
