I thought it was supposed to be 400k seasoned for 2 months for ALL marriage extensions. But is it 3 months seasoned for marriage extensions other than the first at Jomtien as a result of a local rule?

That is not correct info for Jomtien. They only require 2 months before the date of application for every extension.

Hi, Joe

I'm sure that your knowledge of visa matters surpasses mine many times over.  However, I printed 3 months for renewals for reasons going back to my first spousal extension, although not at Jomtien.  I was shown the immigration bible, a thick book with all the immigration regulations that all immigration offices have.  It quite clearly stated that the seasoning was for 2 months on first application, then 3 months for further renewals.  The immigration officer at the time explained this in detail and told me to make sure the 3 months applied for my renewal the following year.  As we all know, each immigration office makes-up their own rules as they see fit.  Unless the rules have changed, and the immigration bible has been updated, which is quite possible, but doubtful, I season the money each year for 3 months before renewal, just in-case the IO got-out of the wrong side of the bed and decides to implement the correct procedure.

If you can clarify the seasoning information at Jomtien, and that the bible has been updated, that would be great.

Cheers

It has never been 2 months for the first extension the 3 months after that. That was the rule for retirement that was recently changed to 2 months for every extension.

If I recall correctly it was changed from 3 months to 2 months in 2006.

This from police order 327/2557 (2014).

"(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year."

At Jomtien this year they caught me out because I had topped up my  money in the bank to 400,000 baht

58 days ago instead of 60  so I believe they actually ( at Jomtien counter 6 ) count  days and not months but T.i.T !

I've read through 327/2557, which became effective on the 29th August 2014, after my initial application.  I'm inclined to agree with you, but it does not categorically state that the same applies for renewals.  However, post 7 above by johng clarifies the situation.  In light of that, I'll change my post to reflect the 2 month seasoning for all applications.

Thanks for the information

Moti24--thanks for that update information (of your recent experience), which most people should be grateful for, but of course there always has to be the odd few that question minor details as if you are writing false information.

Instead of this silly type of argument (and if one month of seasoning is really that important) they should talk to immigration directly.

As you basically suggested, as have others over the years, if in doubt just season for 3 months..done and dusted.

Thanks again.
