Marriage Visa - Financials

Featured Replies

I plan to get a Non-O from the UK later this year and will be converting to a marriage visa during the last 30 days.

I'm pretty sure I understand all the many requirements, bar one; the financial evidence.

After reading numerous posts on here, it would seem that the 400,000 THB needs to be in a Thai account of my name for 3 months, yet when I asked this question to the Thai Embassy in London, they stated it's fine for the money to sit in the UK.

Can anyone actually confirm this to be the case? While I'd prefer my cash to be in the UK, I'd rather not just take one person's word for it when it comes to visa rules in Thailand, even if I do have this in writing.

Nor would I.....put it in a Thai bank

Thanks... I think so too. Just not worth the potential hassel.

To apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration you need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months on the date you apply or 40k baht income.

Perhaps the person at the embassy was confusing a visa application there with a a extension stay applied for here.

It’s 2 months; and the money must be in a Thai bank.

If you want to keep your money in the UK, you could ...

1. Transfer 40K every month to Thailand and apply for the extension based on income.

2. Apply if a ME ‘O-A’ visa — if your over 50 and have the equivalent of 800K min in a UK bank. That gives you a 1 year stay on entry. You can get a 2nd year if you exit/re-enter just before the visa expires. After two years it’s back to the UK for a new visa, OR apply for a 1 year extension (spouse).

As said, 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank 2 months before application.

Or, 40,000 Baht monthly income.

Easier to get a multi entry non 'o' at the consulate in HCMC Vietnam or Suvannakhet Laos.

No financials required and if you're a Brit, free VISA waiver to get into Vietnam.

However, as I understand it, you will need to leave/re-enter the country every 90 days.   I've recently changed from a Retirement extension to a Marriage one here in Phuket (assuming you are also going to be applying in Phuket).   Here is the list of requirements from the Phuket Immigration Volunteers website, which I found to be completely accurate, with the exception that they also wanted one witness in attendance at Immigration when applying (though was told that this was for the first Marriage extension only):

It's not if going to the UK anyway. You can apply by post and it takes less than a week.
