Oil leak at pump house

Featured Replies

As I am out of country at the moment, apologies for lack of clear info, my missus is not too practical minded.

So she tells me that she noticed some black oil on floor of pump house, thinks its coming from pump. So I tell her to show the pool cleaning guy, who is not the sharpest cookie at the best of times. He reckons it is from the pump, and its a "plastic seal, that can be repaired for about 1,000Baht".

Now I am wondering is the oil coming from some sealed unit, within the pump or somewhere else, although I cannot think of anywhere else that there would be oil?????

Also, will be 6 weeks before I return and am able to deal with it, so maybe too long to limp along with a "sick pump".

Details / photos of the pump (name, model etc.) and the leaking area might help the pump experts to respond.

A pool pump (and most small electric pumps) won't have an oiled bearing housing, not one you'd top up anyway. Bit odd really and photos would help.

Oil - I don't think so! More than likely some sludge, dust etc mixed with some water from a blown seal. Is it a salt chlorinated pool? If so it should have white (salt) residue as well. If only a small amount you may get away with running it till you get back?

But it could also seize as well costing you more! 1,000 baht is not to bad!
