BANGKOK, 31 May 2019 (NNT) - Deputy government spokesman Lt. Gen. Veerachon Sukhonthapatiphak dismissed as groundless the rumors shared online that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has planned to use his absolute power to declare a state of emergency and dissolve political parties, rendering the loss of status for all 500 MPs. He said the premier has followed the laws, listened to the people and has not had such ideas to do as rumored.

The deputy government spokesman said somebody had intended to spread the groundless rumors only to confuse the public in the wake of movements for the setting up of a new government and to reduce the credibility of the current government. He quoted the premier as calling on the people to not believe such unaccountable hearsay and assuring that he has not had such ideas. The parties are yet to adopt clear stands toward the setting up of a government. He warned those who may have an ill intent toward the government to stop it and said the authorities are locating the rumormongers and taking legal action against them.

Meanwhile, the Palang Pracharath Party yesterday invited the Chart Thai Pattana Party to join in its coalition. The Pheu Thai Party has postponed a meeting of its MPs to adopt a resolution on the voting for a prime minister due to lack of coordination with the House of Representatives for the date on which the premier may be voted. The leading members of the Pheu Thai Party declined to comment on earlier laid plans to name Chatchart Sittipunt or Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan as candidate for prime minister. They said the matter has not been as yet finalized, pending a joint resolution to be adopted by a seven-party alliance.

Future Forward Party spokesperson Phannikar Wanich declined to comment on decisions made by the Pheu Thai Party and that her party will leave it to the seven-party alliance to make a joint decision on the prime-ministerial candidate issue. However, the Future Forward Party only has its leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit as candidate for premier though his MP duty is being suspended by the Constitutional Court.

Besides, Ruengkrai Leekitwattana submitted evidence to the Election Commission in a petition for the EC to investigate 10 Democrat Party MPs for allegedly holding shares in media firms and doing business of the media firms. If found guilty as charged, the accused could possibly be deemed to have disqualified as an MP and to have their MP duty suspended. In addition, he said he would take legal action against another 50 MPs, including those of the Bhumjaithai Party and Chart Thai Pattana Party as well as senators for allegedly holding shares in media firms as well.

His coup patron is no longer around. If there is one, it will not be by him.

Future developments could

be interesting with the recent change in the chain of command.

And the fact that Prayut don’t have direct command over the military.

Correct and seems he has lost more recently, things aren't really going all that swimmingly for him - tough.

PS he never did have direct control anyway.

Definitely waiting in the wings.

As others have mentioned, the reactions will be - interesting.

One thing of which we can be sure, if P is replaced he won't be given a job on the board of the lottery!

There is apparently a messiah who has put his hand up for the position, maybe a fall back position if things don't work out as planned.

Had there been a free and fair election without all the (failed) rigging, this mess wouldn't exist at this time. But .......

That might be the reason used for the next inevitable coup, refill the trough for the next dictator (and his minions), rinse and repeat.

Rumors...

Someone puts something on fb and lots of idiots spread that independent of the source and/or the truth.

I remember the good old times when the news came out the next morning in the newspaper, or the day later...

Yeah. I miss the Pravda too. Chinese at least still have their People's Daily.

The fact that such rumours are circulating says much about Thailand's political theatre.

He's hardly likely to do that after all the hard work put in by the Election Committee fiddling the figures, is he?

Should be :

He said the premier has circumvented the laws , cast a deaf ear to the people and has an idea to do as rumored.
