Taxis, Baht buses , motorbikes, tour buses, all should be banned from where the tram runs. Flood drainage works done before or at the same time as preparing the rails. Special licence taxis allowed to do hotel pick ups drop offs , hospitals etc, from a central taxi station. Barriers put up, police presence on all entrances. CCTV cameras everywhere. All these things exist in popular tourist areas around the world. One of the best examples is Nice. Two big multi story parking buildings at either end of Pattaya would work wonders too. One can only hope that the research team they employ are experts and know the particular problems of Pattaya . People will complain, but will eventually get used to it. The change in the air you’ breath will be truly amazing !

Is that Khao Yai in the background? Looks like Diamond Head in Hawaii to me, or are they contemplating turning the world class resort into a Hawaii theme park?

Blackpool and San Francisco have coped OK for decades.

i agree once a tram is there to ban most other vehicles on these tram routes.

Its very simple to turn Pattaya city center around into a green walkable area  with just public transportation only will it happen? Nop.

oh and of course  link the tram with Jomtien and the with new train station.

You must never have been to Blackpool.

OK, besides the Pattaya flooding problem, the tram seems to have just a few stops along the tiny little route. Means a lot of walking in the sun for the passengers, but who cares, theres some money involved ????

Trafic problem will be even worse, I have experience from a northern country with this solution. Then you have all the electric wires in the air, if not a system like in Rio de Janeiro, that recharges the tram in the road at the stations. Interesting over there, are that a motobike police have to be in front of the tram, this to secure the traffic flow.

By the way the Rio trams are almost totally empty ????

It has to be a raised tram.  With the traffic congestion and poor drainage systems, a ground tram with never be reliable and doomed to failure before even getting off the ground, (err... pardon the pun!).  I know sky trams are ugly concrete monstrosities, but maybe they could spend the money that will be wasted on politics and nonsense studies and use it to get artful with the concrete columns. They could make it ascetically and artfully pleasing with a little imagination.  But if pigs could fly........

Isn't SF cable cars rather than trams? Actually more to be worried about!

I visited Malaga a few years ago and was really impressed with the underground parking that had been built at each town along that coast. The car parks were sited underneath the beach roads, making parking and walking to beach-front restaurants, shops, etc very easy.

Late?  don't you think?  if so the study should ask the government to stop the improvement on Pattaya Nua since it will have to be ripped up again!

no brains here !!!

Is it 1st April already?

lets face it THIS WILL NEVER happen......

This project will "transform Pattaya" alright.... without the rail line ever being built.

There'll be lots more local government officials and consultants driving around in new Mercedes and dolling out cash to various mia nois and night workers.....

Looks like the brain cell has not been plugged in again

what will happen to all the bht bus and taxi drivers not forgetting the motorcycle taxis

they will all loose income and livelihoods

and will all the Chinese tour busses

that clog up the town be banned and the Chinese made to use the trams

I do not think so

it’s just another scam

Will never happen. Tram needs more maintenance than buses and not so safe when heavy rain or flood compared to a bus. Its a high voltage stuff.

Motorbike will drive on the track , you can be sure of that and trash and other issues will destroy /obstruct the rails.

Moving beach will misalign the trail ( you need concrete and they even dont glue the pavement together )

Think also about power outages or people trying to wire their business on the tram line ... Lot of potential issues

They probably won't wire their business to it more than once the voltage on the tram would probably be higher than the 220 house voltage????

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Supertram

Supertram is powered through 12 electric substations and fed through 107 mm2 (0.166 sq in) cross-section overhead line equipment (OHLE) wire.[28] The substations convert the 11 kV AC supply into 750 V DC supply into the overhead.

Another step to rob Pattaya of its original charm and unique character with an application of a sledgehammer technique that suits a few only... If only these horrible looking trams could resemble songtews and employ all drivers that will lose trade as a result of change... And what's next? Motorbikes? Why efforts are not focused on attracting rather than discouraging tourism by, for example, making all Pattaya's streets accessible for all? (I mean pedestrian and wheelchair friendly). And preserving local character rather than introducing boring features available everywhere else... Please review, get it right and smart and unveil huge potential for profit by attracting numbers of paying tourists who love to stroll and explore the unique local business outlets...

Has an urban rope including a part of Jomtien way ever been discussed ?

Urban rope ways cost approximately half of the amount per km, are rather easy to construct, more flexible and scenic ... plenty of successful examples around the world.

The other half could be wisely spent on a badly needed national traffic education program ????

If anybody were stupid enough to tap either the 11k AC or 750 V DC into their house there will certainly be crispy fried critter on the menu.

Cough cough. Pattaya had charm? I must have missed that.

The only "charm" I saw in the place was on a stage wrapped around a pole.

It did have character in spades, as a playground for big boys, and that's being taken away all the time,  but not by this stupidity. Doesn't matter anyway, as after spending the 70 million they'll discover that it's not possible to put a tram up Second Rd without either banning all the vehicles, or destroying all the buildings on one side or the other.

Perhaps they can put the tram on ground level and put all the vehicles on an elevated road ????
