Govt: No extra money for state welfare cardholders

BANGKOK, 13 June 2019(NNT) - The government has dismissed a rumor that it will transfer 3,000 baht to the bank accounts of state welfare card holders.

 

Deputy Government Spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, Lt.Gen.Weerachon Sukhonthapatiphak, has confirmed that welfare cardholders will not receive an additional 3,000 baht from the government and they will continue to have the same privileges when using the card. The confirmation came after a large number of people queued up to open a Bangkok Bank account to receive the 3,000 baht.

 

He said the government has continued to provide financial assistance to low-income people, such as expenses for consumer goods, travel, water supply and electricity, so the welfare cardholders will not receive an additional 3,000 baht from the government.

 

He confirmed that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has placed great importance on caring for low-income earners and the government has no policy to cancel welfare cards, which are undergoing continuous improvement so about 14.5 million welfare card holders do not have to worry about this.

 

The government wants to facilitate public access to financial services and reduce travel expenses, so it has launched a measure to allow elderly and welfare cardholders to open one basic savings account for one bank without setting a minimum limit for opening the account or balance in the account. They do not have to pay a fee or annual fee for depositing, withdrawing or transferring money to commercial banks. They can also apply for an ATM card with participating banks without paying a fee or annual fees. Those who want to exercise their rights must register with the bank in order to receive the privileges.

Rumour or not, of course there is no money for frivolous citizens. Got to keep buying submarines and tanks and other military equipment that will never be used for its genuine purpose. When was the last time Thailand was in a war. 100 years ago?

There were those who fought until told to surrender, when the Japanese invaded during WWII

There was that border skirmish with Laos back in 1988.  General Chavalit was in charge of the Thai forces.

 

Not surprisingly, Laos won.

Wonder how the rumor got started?   And why did they queue for a "Bangkok Bank" account? 

 

Almost always any govt give-away of money requires an account at KrungThai Bank or another bank whose majority share holder is the govt....but not at a commercial bank like Bangkok Bank, SCB, K-bank, etc.

In 1942 the Thai army invaded the Karen and Shan states in Burma and also part of China but was eventually forced to retreat by the Indian army and Chinese forces. Thailand also had a very large, over 80,000, anti-Japanese guerilla force that worked with the Allies.

Of course. Just shows you how the military act when finally asked to do their job. The surrender and that is what it was, was all about maintaining their positions of power and allowing the peasants to be used and abused by an outside force.

 

So much for the saying the military so often use about protecting the country's security.

Thailand also assisted Australia in the Timor stand off with Indonesia and they've also have done their bit in Afghanistan and Iraqi more than some NATO countries have.

YOu already had that payment in the vote buying

???? Believe you may be incorrect? it was only around three hours, gallant souls though they were, I'll bet there were no "Generals" lost or injured in the "fighting"

Caring for low income earners? A government pension is 500 baht/month, rising to a munificent 800 baht/month if the recipient makes it to 80 yo. Yeah right.

If there are a few in the family it mounts up, plenty of people are actually working, some abroad and still claim.

If that is happening in your family you to get updated. The FIL ( and not 80 yo) gets 1500 per month but part of that is for a disability that happened 30 years ago but only claimed this year.

You need to read more about Thai history. As well as what other posters have said there was the 12 year "civil war" against the communists.

Thai troops served in Korea and Vietnam.

Ok to give between Baht 300 and Baht 500 to vote for Certain people then, Found money for that.

His only possible allies , as the US wasnt interested  in any of it , was the UK and France. 

Both of which had been pilfering Thai territories for years.

 

I dont seem to recall the British in Singapore , far better armed than the Thai , doing a very good job either ... in fact their resistance was paltry ...

 The British were ALL over the world fighting along with their allies  Thailand fought in Thailand for Thailand. and changed sides

The Northwest, maybe?

Sending soldiers to these areas in unprotected vehicles, armed with hopelessly old fashioned and worn out equipment isn't really wise.

I agree with you that submarines are not really needed for these problems, but there is also such a thing as diplomatic buying.
