Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan and lese majeste prisoner and anti-coup activist Jatupat “Pai Dao Din” Boonpatararaksa led pro-democracy activists in hosting a mini concert that raised funds for anti-junta activist “Ja New” at the October 14 Monument in Bangkok on Saturday.

The latest attack on Sirawith “Ja New” Seritiwat left the anti-junta activist in ICU with a broken nose and cheekbone, and needing an operation to fix his broken right eye socket, the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights group said on Saturday. Sirawith was assaulted by four unidentified men with baseball bats in Bangkok on Friday morning. They were wearing helmets and riding motorbikes with no licence plates.

Sirawith helped organise the concert, named “Democracy 24 June: What’s day?”, to mark the 87th anniversary of the Siamese Revolution of 1932 that overthrew absolute monarchy and replaced it with constitutional rule.

Won't be the last one. LOL

Looks suspiciously like a gathering of more than 2 people,I thought that was illegal in Thailand?Could this be the begining?

still, Parina Kraikupta MP from Ratchaburi from the fascist party believes, that he wasn't beaten by police (as in so many previous occasions), but by the members of Future Forward Party.

She reacted now and wrote her statement in english, after international media reported

Is there hope of a fightback? I had resigned myself to thinking everyone was just lying down and taking the beating......More like this please!

It will be rather interesting to see if others get beaten in a similar manner.  The junta's power is slipping.  Thailand is divided.  It would seem that BIG institutional type, gravy train, Thais favored the junta.  Those who hustle for a living do not.  If these sorts of beatings become common, it will be interesting to see what the Thai junta apologists will think.

Most pro coup types have long since gone.  The junta kept taking away their arguments.

Is this the beginning of an civil-war !!?????

...provide protection for the family...that is the next target.  sadly...

In the photos provided of him after the first assault, he did not look as badly injured as one might have expected. But that may have been a false impression generated by the photo angle.

The latest attack clearly was more brutal and savage.

One has to admire this guy's guts. Few would be as brave as he has proven himself to be. The bully-boys are getting so, so desperate now. They are being shielded and protected, obviously. One hates to think how much worse this will get.

Poor, poor Thailand, and the decent people of Thailand, who just want their democratic rights to be respected ...

People have died from one punch and falling and hitting their heads on the ground and show little or no evidence of violence yet they died from what is considered a violent attack. Those that say he was just slapped about a bit in the first attack sound like bullies who justify violence by saying things like this or that people deserved it.They make judgements from photos like they where there and witnessed the whole thing. It just takes one blow from a stick or club to the wrong place on the back of the head to cause death with no obvious signs. Most of us know this or at least should know this.Yet this doesn't stop people revealing their lack of compassion or intelligence or both.

Sadly, this is so true.

Wish the guy all the best in his recovery.

There is a fightback and it has been fought for a long time and the the fight back is being done on the giant chess board of Thai politics where I personally hope it stays as frustrating and slow as it is,because if we have "more like this" it could easily move into the streets where instead of exchanging arguments bullets will be exchanged and I'm pretty sure nobody will win that argument!

Oh father, they're planning the next assault.

Mahatma Gandhi fought without weapons and he did win. It's time for all to stand up now.

None of my high school students, nobody in my extended Thai family likes to have the dictator who really believes that teenagers aren't old enough to make such statements that they don't like a dictatorship?

It's a very sad time for all Thais and also for foreigners who're not here on a holiday.

the thing is, that violence against thai opposition is leading to violence against foreigners.

somebody wrote on another thread, that the last weekend there was exodus of Burmese men back to their country.

those very thugs, who beat opposition are those kind, who will beat burmese, farangs or anybody else just they can, who they believe is against them.

from this thread and many others, very recently on tvf, it seems the great majority of posters, are against junta.

from my observations there is greater hostility to foreigners since bangkok shutdown. That coming from the local population of elderly and from junta agencies. They do realise, that foreigners are a threat to a feudal system and conservatism.

those tugs, who join army and civil service, are nationalists, racists, and they are brainwashed into slave thinking after taking their jobs.
