The number of foreign tourists in the second half of this year will increase only 1.6 per cent or by 20.1 million when compared to the first half of this year, which saw a total 19.7 million of foreign visitor arrivals, according to research released by by Kasikorn Research Centre on Friday.

The research estimates the number of foreign tourists at between 39 million and 39.8 million at the end of this year, a rise of between two per cent and four per cent over 2018.

“Based on income in 2018, we estimate foreign tourists will spend up to Bt1.97 trillion this year, the research said.

I wonder why images like the OP pic are not publicized in TAT's brochures and commercials. All I ever see are entirely deserted stretches of glistening, pristine beaches with not a single empty beer bottle or discarded plastic bag washed up by the waves in sight.

Hardly a surprise that numbers are dwindling if that's an idyllic beach. Then there's the incoming flight to a crowded airport, queues at Immigration, Bangkoks traffic jams, the forest fires and the air pollution over much of the country. Only when its pouring down with rain does the air improve and then you have the flooded roads to deal with. Its not easy having a good time here.

The aluminium is finally starting to show through teflon Thailand. Soon burned to black soot.

If the boom-boom boom slows down, then Thailand's status as the hub of hubba hubba will be under threat :(

Very true. Methinks they have been non too happy for a while. A lot of the bars have been quiet for most of the season. Don’t see many Indians or Chinese in the bars. I gauge the business by how many cat calls I get at 62 yo. More this year than any other year ????

Yep, saw him. Did you also catch the blue hat girl in the middle pulling her pink shorts out of her crack? Never know if you will end up on an internet photo.

Unfortunately the ones doing the cat calls are 62y old too. Or so it looks like. The stock hasn't been replenished, action has moved to online. The unique character of beer bars of yesterday is all but dead. Too bad, I liked the party atmosphere.

Overtime at the TAT again- how do we blame forangs for the loss?

It is what happens when you have a bunch of wet blankets running the country.  Thailand's neighbors are fun too and more welcoming.   The junta have been marginalizing fun half a decade.   They have only solved the beach chair crisis thus far.

Seems to be really bad this year - a friend of mine who is running a restaurant here since 10 years says it has never been so bad. Not only few tourists but also expats tightening their belt and go out less because of the strong Baht.
Thought he was exaggerating but then I was shocked when he gave me some numbers compared to previous years.

Glad I was able to experience this country back in 1987 when there were only 3 million tourists. At almost 40 million now it must be completely unsustainable. Also the strong Thai baht has got to eventually have some sort of effect.

As far as I can see they should be happy with a decline, before the place is completely ruined, but I have been saying that for years now.

Such attention to detail!

This picture would make a good jigsaw.

Now, as any experienced person knows , when doing a jigsaw you always sort out the edge pieces first . One of the edge pieces here would be a set of knockers.

Look at the Baht.  Most overpriced currency in SE Asia—if not the planet.  Perhaps BoT could at least tell us who inputs these foreign funds...

Not Mark Mobius, nor George Soros, nor Carl Icahn...

I think from what i have seen of the buffalos in the bars these days , its less stock and more live-stock !

What is the activity here, standing on the beach looking at the crowd?

I think the most fun can be had by barreling back and forth in the sea of Chinese, bowling ball style. Strike!

There is no prostitution in Pattaya didn't you read the news ??

The mist of illusion, which dominates so many aspects hereabouts , is starting to clear. Instant news and the internet cannot be covered up by photo ops and flashy promotions.

Time to pay the piper, is what I say. Myanmar is kicking butt with their remote beaches, for example.

and here we go again with TAT fake numbers and estimates..... what research are they talking about and who did the research, TAT?  if the baht keeps at its current levels they should expect a much bigger drop not increase
