    Storks.     They are masters of thermal riding.   They will ride a thermal front if a storm for as long as they like.   Sometimes they will ascend to 3-4000feet above the ground.

I think you are confusing Asian Openbills (a species of stork) with Cattle Egrets (a species of egret). The Cattle Egrets do indeed associate with cows and buffaloes feeding on the insects they disturb. The Openbills have a clear two-tone colour pattern at rest while cattle egrets are either all white (winter) or white with orange (summer, breeding)

No, they are Storks, some white, some Black. 

They migrate to find fields/paddies which have shallow water to make snail hunting easy. A bit of rain will also wake up the snails. Yes spreading. Have a friend who is a bird watcher and one day we saw them flying overhead at our farm ponds in Udon. First time he had seen them around here. Ever since, see them every year. I think they like the neglected paddy fields which are common these days.
