Phalang Pracharat cleared of all election irregularities

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday cleared the pro-junta bloc of five allegations that could have disbarred them from politics, including the controversial fundraising banquet that raised Bt650 million for Phalang Pracharat last year.

Tickets for the banquet were sold for Bt3 million per table, raising questions about the event's lawfulness in the constitution.

The concern was especially timely, given that anti-junta party Future Forward was prohibited by the EC from selling souvenirs online around the same time last year, ruling them unlawful.

EC secretary-general Jarungvith Phumma said on Tuesday that Phalang Pracharat’s fundraising dinner was not illegal because although the ticket prices were high, the organisers were competent enough to charge them.

Jarungvith further explained that the law did not impose a cap on how much supporters could fund a political party, so no action would be taken against Phalang Pracharat over the fundraiser.

Four other cases were brought to the EC by pro-Shinawatra politician Ruangkrai Leekitwatana regarding Phalang Pracharat and its politicians but all were dismissed.

They were the petition to dissolve Phalang Pracharat for illegally nominating Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha as its PM candidate, the case that Prayut was a state official and could not be a candidate for PM, the case that Prayut’s social media accounts could be seen as making him the owner of media companies and thus disqualified, and the case against Phalang Pracharat leader Uttama Savanayana's potentially illegal leadership.

What does that even mean? FFP was not competent enough to sell T-shirts and coffee mugs but PP was "competent enough" to host a fundraising dinner?   Truly Orwellian double-speak here.

What a sorry state of affairs, the EC clears Phalang Pracharat of all election irregularities, a very sad day for Thailand. The whole election was full of irregularities, and the EC just ignored

The EC are not close to being independent so anything related to PP and the generals P would always be in their favor.

They're only doing what they've been told to do.

You have to admire their audacity. The above 'excuse' makes no sense and completely misses the point about govt agencies paying to join the dinner. Explanations that are un-explainable appear to be their forte.

Thailand has no shame.  I was going to add the eyes of the world were on the outcome of this investigation but then I thought this country is viewed as just another tinpot dictatorship and so expected this whitewash.

They can say and do whatever they want, spout any nonsense, and people are forced to submit to it. For example, if I had their power, I could say:

'The Party has not set a foot wrong since its inception. It acted honourably throughout the election and has  been - and continues to be - an example of how democratic parties should operate. The Future Forward Party, by contrast, have disgraced themselves on numerous occasions and are in violation of countless long-established rules. Their disbandment is not a matter of if, but a question of When. The Party is currently dealing with that matter, in its usual exemplary and honest fashion.'

And there would be NOTHING the Thais could do about it (well - almost nothing ....)!

All done so quickly too, yet the other parties will be dragged on for months and months and months

Surprise surprise. Corrupt politicians cleared of everything  by an Election Commission / corrupt judiciary  who illustrates totally the absolute corrupt morals of modern Thailand.

Its a good job that the elite and special ones have kept the majority of the population in poverty and a brain washed educational wilderness for decades really,  at least they don't understand  why they are paupers and who really is to blame.

It's so easy to understand, just cannot fathom why people have a problem with this.

Here, I'll explain it with a picture:

I'm colour-blind. With all the graft going on here, it's  not all black and white, but various shades of kray.

(probably only works if you're an old English git)

I must correct you, because like you, Colin & Trans, although we are old & English, we are also Gentlemen - unlike the hoi-polloi available on here.

Gentlemen?

Last time I heard that was when somebody asked me if I knew where they were. I told them they were next to the Ladies.

Everything went the way that they planned it. All of us that share our thoughts here will long be dead before anything changes in this country.

Well that is a great legal opinion.

To the "newbies" on the forum, just to be clear:

The current EC members were appointed by the junta-appointed NLA prior to the election and, until the NCPO has been dissolved, can be removed through Prayut's absolute Article 44 power. Therefore, there exists an appearance of conflict (if not collusion) with the junta to not charge pro-military party NLA candidates with any wrongdoing. This is a political case of "the deck is stacked."

The EC does not present itself currently as an unbiased and independent Constitution Organization as defined by the Constitution. It does not present itself as a democratic institution in defiance of the Constitution.

The election commission is a puppet of the Junta lead government ! Courts no different

Double standards. Find any reason to support the junta. EC is unfit for purpose.
