Carnage in Rayong: Caused by a rescue vehicle going through a red light on way to another accident

A rescue pick-up on going fast with its siren wailing on the way to an accident scene caused a far more serious accident at an intersection in Rayong.

 

Muang District police at the Ban Laeng intersection found 11 motorbikes, a  rescue foundation pick-up and a car all damaged in the pile up. 

 

Four women and two men were taken to hospital. 

 

A Mitsubishi Triton driver called Niphon Maneethaopho, 46, said that a rescue vehicle went through a red light fast with its siren blaring. 

 

It collided with a Nissan March in the middle of the intersection and plowed into motorcycles waiting next to his vehicle.

 

A Sawang Porn Kuson (Rayong) foundation rescue driver Natchaphon Raksakit said he had been responding to a call about an accident in Nata Khwan.

 

Police are investigating.

Emergency vehicles are supposed to slow down before entering intersections to avoid these kind of things from happening the driver should be charged but more than likely nothing will happen TIT .

green means go - red means stop

 

If you are going to go through a red light it needs to be done with extreme caution and safely, not ploughing on through a speed hoping that everyone will stop

What´s wrong with people on the street and most posters here? Emergency viechles have all the rights in the world to run a red light, if they deem that an emergency is calling for it. They are there to save lives. Blaming the rescue viechle for the carnage is total rubbish.

All that hear or see a rescue viechle shall slow down, stop, drive to the side and give way. Nothing more need to be said.

Just because emergency vehicles have the right of way does not mean that they can be driven without due care and attention.

If a vehicle is halfway across an intersection (on a green light) then the driver of the emergency vehicle should have taken care not to plough into it.

a flashing blue/red light and a siren does not give the driver a free pass to drive like a lunatic.

There is no excuse for dangerous driving.

 

With decent driver training/education these kind of accidents can be avoided.

Nonsense, rescue vehicles should only proceed at a red light if it is safe to do so, not just go screaming through... Thinking i have right of way.

The rescue vehicle driver was 100% TO BLAME, nobody else.

Sure, now you´re talking about changing the education program for a driver license. Of course, that´s needed and would lower the higth amout of deaths in traffic. It would also stop idiot drivers from driving out half way in an intersection when they hear and see an ambulance, right? So, still have to give way for emergency viechles, and if people are awake in traffic, then they can clearly both see and hear an ambulance before they make the stupid decision to drive half way out in an intersection.

No, I'm talking about changing the education program for emergency vehicle drivers, that is who is at fault in this case.

In most countries in the world emergency crews go on advanced driver courses but apparently not here.

And again, these 11 motorbikes and one vehicle were not doing anything wrong, the accident was caused by the driver of the emergency vehicle shooting through a red light without thinking of anyone else on the road.

1. How canyou even starttalking about advanceddriver courses,whentheydo noteven have basic ones, that makes people understand to look for, listen to and give way for emergency viechles. It doesn´t matter how good they drive, if other drivers do not let them.

 

2. Not blind at all. What I see is that they try to blame the driver of the emergency viechle. If it is in the title or not is totally irrelevant. What is very relevant is that nobody ever care to driv to the side or stop for emgency viechles.

 

3. Ys they were doing all the wrong that they possibly could. They did not listen to the emergency viechle. They did not look at it. You have a long time to both see and hear, so you have time to give way. The only thing they was looking at, was the green light in the intersection.

What training do these emergency vehicle drivers have.? Do they even do a licence check 40+% of Thai drivers and riders on the road do not have a licence.Emergency vehicle drivers in most countries go through advanced driver training courses and have to do refreshers every few years.

Matzzon, I would suggest you do not make posts like this unless you are 100% sure of what you are talking about. Emergency vehicles on a call out do NOT have all the rights in the world either here or in any other country. But this being Thailand there is no training given to these so called drivers.

When approaching a red light or a Give Way intersection, the emergency vehicle MUST slow down and ensure it is safe to proceed.

I write this as being an Emergency Vehicle Driver in the UK for over 30 years....

Red traffic lights on the way to an emergency should be treated as a give way sign

And proceed only with extreme caution.

Most emergency vehicles i see in Thailand do this, some even stop at red lights.

The biggest thing when driving to an emergency is to control the adrenaline rush that

occurs in the body as it can make you blind to obvious dangers.

In the UK,  Emergency vehicle drivers have to undergo an intense 10 day refresher course

every 2 years which involves driving in all conditions, you are assessed every second of the course.

Seems to me that this driver involved in the incident did everything wrong….but can you blame him

if he has never been trained….this is the biggest problem in Thailand.
