Extension if stay - reason - providing and staying with children denied - Udon Thani Immigration

To my surprise - I was told - extension of stay - for Thai children reasons - are only granted once a year - with a 30 day - visa free entry - how to do that now - in Vientiane - you have to have an appointment made before - usually 3 weeks fully booked - crazy again

That apparently is a Udon Thani immigration rule. There is no rule stating that only one 60 day extension per year can be done. The only restriction is that you can only do one per entry.

If you can a apply for a single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of Thai you can get a appointment less than a week in advance.

The last time I looked there were appointments available less than 2 weeks in advance for tourist visas.

Thank you - I in Immigration Udon Thani now - waiting to talk to Supervisor -

Have to leave Thailand on 11.7. I think not enough time for appointment and I cannot log in now - my profile in Vientiane suspended - as I did not used my appointment on 15.6. - cannot log in - with my Passport number. Not with new e.mail - nothing works.

Similar problem was at that Udon Thani Immigration about 10 years ago -

anyway -

the young Supervisor - I waited about an hour - high ranking Immigration officials occupied his time - granted me now a extension of stay - the last time as he said and even meant -

even after a Non Immigrant O Visa,

there will be no more extension of stay in future -

only 1 year long extensions with proof of money in Bank (400.000) for 2 or 3 ? month - so they want to keep the less wealthy fathers away and out?

If I did not insist to talk more there, I would have been forced to drive to Savannaketh Consulate - 250 km away - good I was not on my last day of my 30 days allowance of stay.

They are still making up their own rules.

The 400k baht needs to be in the bank for 2 months or you can show proof of at least 40 baht income. Are you the legal father of your children by way of marriage or legitimization of you parenthood?

The are appointments available for non immigrant visas for next Tuesday and Wednesday at Vientiane if you were not on a 30 day suspension.

I assume a 3 month visa for being the parent of a Thai child can still be obtained from Savanakhet Ubon Joe? Only need birth certificate, Tabien baan and copy mothers ID. No money required and 3 month can be extended an extra 2 months.

I believe it can be done over and over and some have been doing it for years. Has there been any change?

Is that what he is saying he was denied or only one entry per year available at Vientienne or only Sav?

So he's saying he's getting the 3 month Visa ok but not getting the 2 month extension from Thai immigration Udon Thani?

I was trying to get the 60 day extension for a 30 day visa exempt entry and they told him only one per year.

They also told him he could not get another one for a 90 day entry from a non-o visa. Only a one year extension application would be accepted.

This doesn’t really concern me because I don’t have kids but I’m on a marriage extension non-o. I don’t understand why it’s apparently more difficult for foreign parents of Thai children because you’d think that the kids would be a higher priority. Is it normal for parents of Thai children to experience obstacles in getting their extensions? I’ve never had a problem getting my extensions based on marriage. Just curious.

More specifically, they want fathers who don't pay off immigration out.  There is no "tea money" in it for them if you are coming in on Visa or Visa-Exempt entries and getting legit 60-day extensions.

Don't expect them do do what is right for the Thai family - it's not even a consideration for the bad-apples - only if they can pocket "extra" money for their trouble (aka "doing their job").

Ring the helpline and complain and the more people who do it, the more complaintes will be lodged and hopefully Thai Immigration will get themselves in order and follow the rules.............hopefully.

That - and report it to newspapers in your home-country - how Thailand Immigration is breaking up families by inventing non-existent rules, for corruption-reasons.  Combined with all the airport denials without legal-cause, there is a good story there.  I doubt there will be any change until a LOT of bad Western press is generated.  There is no one at the top who cares otherwise, evidently.

Whether kids or marriage, it can be a huge headache at many offices.  Just hope the supervisor running your "no problem" office does not get swapped for one who doesn't approve of marriage-based extensions w/o a payoff.

I must admit my local immigration has changed it's tune recently. Noticed a change of head. 2nd one in last 6 months. I did not think anything of it but I was told my photo was too old and I needed a new one it was brqnd new. Cost me 100 baht no big deal but the busiest place was the photo room. Maybe it's back to biz for these guys. They did all look a lot happier.

I did not keep my appointment for 15.6. - so I still suspended. Thought it is a 2 week suspension - but you will know better.

I am not the legal father if my Thai children - my Amphoe does not know how to deal with that problem - I tried -  until now the birth certificate was good enough to get a Non Immigrant O visa in Vientiane.

I have now a 2 month extension of stay granted -

I tried to call the Immigration Hotline - but long waiting after talking with a lady - and  nothing on the end came out - she wanted to give me the number if Udon Thani Immigration and later gave me the number of Bangkok Immigration - there nobody took my call.

Yes - but the extension of 2 month is now possibly not possible anymore in Udon Thani Immigration.
