Does anyone know where I can buy 'Goop' brand glue ?  Either locally or have it shipped to Pattaya .  In the USA,  it is sold in Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart.  I find it so useful for repairs all kinds of things.  If someone who has experience using GOOP glue and can recommend something very similar, please let me know.  I know there are many, many types of good glues but I am trying to locate Goop glue or something similar.  I haven't been back to the USA in a while otherwise I would just bring some back with me. It is possible that some airlines might have a restriction about bring this glue, due to its' chemical makeup.   I am not trying to start a thread about "what glue do you think is best".   Thanks

It is sold at Ace Hardware in the states, and there is an Ace Hardware franchise somewhere in Thailand. Perhaps you can get it there. I don't know the contact details but there have been threads about it in the past so maybe a search will find it or someone will post a link.

Thanks !!!   Yes, I know they sell it at Ace hardware in the USA...Big price there,  higher than HomeDepot but I don't care about the higher price. Google doesn't show them in Thailand,  Philippines and others but not Thailand.     http://www.acehardwareintl.com/locations.shtml

I know it's not the same, but it's similar. I've ordered Shoe Goo tubes in the past via Amazon in the U.S., and had them reshipped here. They're small and light and low-value, so the added expense was small.

I've never heard or seen of the product being available in Thailand. There used to be a TrueValue affiliate branch in the K-Village Mall in BKK on Suk Soi 26. But the last time I was there, that store was gone and it had been replaced by a Thai-named store that carried some of the old stock, but clearly was a different store.

Thanks !!!   Yes, I have used shoe goo before and I think it is about the same. I will have to look at Amazon  but recently Amazon said they are in Thailand now but when I did a search for something it took me back to the USA website as they don't carry or ship everything to Thailand.  Thanks for the idea and I will check for it on Amazon.

Yes,  but what about the shipping costs??  I don't want to get involved with customs and all of their rules.

It doesn't look like Amazon will ship the Thailand and even if they did, using FedEx or similar,  the cost would be too much for a small order of glue. I might just have to start trying some of the many glues at HomePro  or wait until I go the the USA.  A friend brought me some several years ago but he also doesn't return to the USA very often.

If you get it sent USPS the chances are good it will get through without duty/VAT, sensible shipping cost too ????

I never have Amazon ship anything directly to Thailand, because:

a: only a limited portion of their catalog is available for TH shipping.

b: they use private courier services that are ridiculously expensive

c; because they use private couriers, their shipments are almost always subjected to customs duty and VAT.

Instead, I use a private reshipping service like Planet Express or Shipito to receive my packages in the U.S. with Amazon's Prime free shipping, and then mail them onward here via airmail and ultimately Thai Post delivery, typically, no customs or VAT for packages under 1500b value. For a package of Shoe Goo, I'd probably pay a total of $7-8 in shipping to TH.

PS - AFAIK, Amazon has no LOCAL operating presence in TH... maybe in the future, but not right now.

Agree about that entirely... I almost never pay customs duty or VAT for anything I send here. Because I have everything shipped via airmail. And I  keep the individual package sizes small and the values under the 1500b customs threshold.

The reshipping services I mention above offer all variety of shipping methods, including USPS. But they also offer their own airmail services that typically are half the price or less than USPS Global Priority. For Planet Express, there's no monthly fee, only a $2 per package handling fee plus postage costs.

Planet Express' own airmail may be their own similar version of USPS First Class International, but in my experience, it's pretty rare to find any online retailer that ships directly via First Class International. It's almost always USPS Priority or the various private couriers like FedEx or DHL. Meaning the prices are going to be considerably higher.

My experience with Amazon is rather different.

1)The items I have bought are not available in Thailand.

2)the Postage & Packing cost is about the same as the VAT that I would have had to pay had I bought the items at home, as they are exported there is no VAT.

3) the Import Fee Deposit is usually an overestimate and the difference is refunded.

4) from ordering to delivery is about 7 days.

if I can find the items I want elsewhere I will get them form another source, but if not then I consider the extra the cost of living in Thailand.

I think you're misunderstanding my comments above...

I said, I NEVER have Amazon ship anything directly to TH, because their shipping is overpriced and usually incurs customs duty and VAT.

I also said, I buy from Amazon U.S. constantly, and have my U.S. based shippers re-ship the items to me in TH. I pay significantly lower postage rates than those of Amazon, and usually pay no customs duty or VAT at all.

Comparing the option of Amazon direct shipping or using a good reshipper, the choice is a no brainer.

Thanks to all posters for their suggestions.  I don't have anyone in the USA  who could repack or re-ship for me.  I definitely don't want to get involved with any customs drama over a few tubes of glue.

Has anyone found a similar product at Homepro ?

Might help to know what the OP wants to glue. There is probably something here. Gorilla?

There is not just one specific item I want to repair.  I have used Goop glue to fix many things.  I like that it dries clear and is easily spread around while wet. It is rubbery and can fill gaps.  It is easy to remove and leaves no residue.  Mostly waterproof too.

I met a guy at a gathering a while back who swears by the hot glue gun for fixing EVERYTHING.  I've seen them in the "Home" places.  I've had pretty good luck with adhesive tubes with "Nail" in the name.  For sticking something to a rendered wall, the cheap silicone adhesive seems to work best.  The "Nail" one doesn't seem to like render for some reason.

These guys can handle sending your Amazon shipments to Thailand for $2 per package plus actual postage. You don't need to lean on a family member or other acquaintance to do it for you, when there's businesses dedicated solely to that exact job.

https://planetexpress.com/

These are their rates below for a 0.6 lbs package to Thailand. Invariably, their Planet Mail Express option listed below is the best value shipping option available, and as I said above, ends up being about $8 in total cost after you add in their $2 processing fee.

Thanks  TallGuyJohninBKK...I never heard of them before but after I quick look at their website I think you have found me the perfect solution...There are other things I would like and will combine them into one shipment. Multivitamins seem to be very expensive in Thailand so I will add some to my order... GREAT site !!!    Thanks TallGuyJohninBKK

Maybe I jumped the gun as their website has restrictions on things that can't be shipped.  I am writing them to ask.  I think the answer will be no. Back to square one.

Here is their answer.  When someone uses the word "should"  I am not sure how to interpret that.  It sounds like there is room for doubt.  I will not take a chance as there are 2 possible areas for problems, USA side and Thai side.

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

We should be able to ship the item. Please make sure your local customs allow it to be imported.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Best Regards,

What are you asking them about shipping?  There are relatively few things that anyone would likely order from Amazon that they can't ship.

Drugs and health supplements are one area where they might caution, because some places including Thailand have Customs policies that are tough on those kinds of imports. But in practice, if you sent via PE Airmail Express and the quantity/value was not high, it probably would be OK.

If you were wanting to sent Goop or Shoe Goo, it definitely wouldn't be any problem.

BTW, with PE and international shipments here, you really do NOT want to be combining smaller things into single larger shipments for several reasons.

1. PE's free plan, no monthly fee, does not support package combining. (Their paid monthly or annual plans do...though.)

2. But more importantly, it's to your advantage to keep the individual weight and package values DOWN, not high. Because, their best rate with PE Airmail Express, is only available on packages up to about 4 lbs. And equally so, Thai Customs duty exemption only officially applies to packages up to 1500 baht in value.  So to be safe and economical, you'd want to stay under 1500b declared value and 4 lbs per package.

With a mailout fee of only $2 per package, PE makes it easy to send individual, smaller packages at good rates that are less likely to draw attention from Thai Customs.

Another service is https://www.shipito.com/en/ however nutritional supplements are not permitted by any forwarding service. You may  have better luck with https://www.iherb.com/

Yes, I want to ship the GOOP glue...Years ago,  I had problems boarding my airplane as the goop glue was setting off their bomb detector due to some of it's chemicals. They finally let me on the plane but it took several supervisors to OK it..Thank for all the info.  I might give it a try . Of course, it is not life or death that I get this glue BUT i would like to as I have used it for Years with great success.  .Thanks, TallGuyJohninBKK,

I've purchased a couple of tubes of Shoe Goo on Amazon in the past couple years, and had them shipped here via Planet Express, I believe one tube in each of two packages at two different times, and all came thru just fine via PE Airmail Express. No reason they wouldn't.

Shipito on their site says they won't ship nutritional supplements to Thailand. But Planet Express' generic website list of prohibited items doesn't list them, probably because it's not a safety or legal issue, but a Thai Customs restriction.

So, I've ordered and received things like vitamins and supplements in the past just in regular retail bottles (not bulk carton sizes) from online sources like Amazon and Walgreen's, and received them just fine.
