Currently I am in possession of the above due to expire 1/1/2020.

I wish to apply for the extension (based on marriage) which I understand to be 1900baht or so along with all the relevant documentation and 400k THB.

Q1).  My understanding is that I can exit the country (via Mae Sai as we are in CM) late December this year and automatically get another 3months this taking my 1 year visa entitlement to almost 15months. Please confirm my understanding is correct.

Q2). To apply for the extension by marriage my understanding is as follows:

Deposit 400k in bank 3 months before application.

Apply 30days before said expiry of visa stamp (assuming I do as mentioned in Q1, multi visa will expire end of March) that would be  end of Feb

Q3). Will my new extension visa be restrictive in any way for me to travel out of TH or will it be the same as my current multi visa?

Q4). I understand that I won't need to leave the country and can choose to report to my local immigration office every 90 days or online to complete formalities.

Q5). Also reading about need for insurance. There have been several threads but it all seems unclear at present. Presuming something will be formal in 2020.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can go out before end of December and retrieve a new 3 month stay. and the extensions is valid for 1 year, where you not have to leave the country!

In the case you want leave you have to organize a Re-Entry permit 1'000 for Single or 3'800 for Multi Re-Entry. So you could stay here without leaving the country forever or as long you are entitled for a new extension.

About the Insurance nobody knows really something, but at the moment it seems this is not for extensions. We will see when more "real" information are available.

Thanks for your swift response. How does the re-entry permits you mentioned work?

Am I not simply allowed to extend my multi visa as a marriage extension at local immigration which would allow me to leave and re-enter Thailand?

When you go to extend your visa, you also can ask right away for a multi Re-Entry permit at the Immigration.

It is also possible to ask one at the Airport, but I never have done it, as I always ask right away for the Multi after receiving the extensions. Even when I maybe not use it that much or not at all.. better for me to have it and not need to think in the case I leave the country.

Actually you are not extending your visa! You are extending your permission to stay in Thailand. Therefore you have to buy a re-entry permit, when you leave. That's the reason why have 2 different words, even most people using Visa for everything!

Hope that's enough clarification.

1. Correct

2. The 400k baht only has to be in the bank for 2 months on the day you apply but it must be in an account in your name only.

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of your 90 day permit to stay you got from the visa. You could apply for the extension of stay during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your visa (no need to wait for it to expire).

3. You will need a re-entry permit to keep the extension valid if you want to travel. A single re-entry permit is 1000 baht and a multiple is 3800 baht.

4. If you stay in the country longer than 90 day consecutive days you will need to do a report to immigration. No need to leave the country unless you want to.

5. No mention of it being needed to apply for extensions of stay. Only needed to apply for a OA visa at a embassy or consulate in your home country and that has not been finalized or formally approved.

Thanks for your swift responses, unfortunately I'm now more confused than ever ????

How does the extension and multi re-entry permit differ from my current non-immigration O multi visa with regards to leaving the country?

With my current visa I can come and go as I please within the 90 days and not pay any additional fees. Is this not the same with the extension if this based on marriage?

Confused.....????

Many thanks just a couple of follow ups if you don't mind

3) where and how do you get the re-entry permit?

4) does this need to be done in person?

You can apply for one at immigration as soon as you have your one extension stamp or at some airports (both airports in Bangkok) on departure from the country

You can do the 90 day reports in person, online or by mail.

The extension and a Visa are not same. With your visa (when Multi) you can go and come as long your visa is still valid.

With the extension you only buy additional time in the country. But when you leave your permision to stay in the country expire. Therefore you need the Re-Entry so you can come back as long the Extension is still valid.

Thanks for the concise explanation.

So unless you plan on leaving TH regularly I assume you are better off with the single re-entry permit of 1000b Vs 3900 for multi.

Yes, actually according to the money if you leave less than 4 time in that year you would be better of with single.

But as I not like to think about it, I always take the multi RE-Entry permit. I know single Re-Entry could be bought at airport as well, which probably is easy.. but when I have my Multi I am sure I never forget it. And therefore not need to think about.

Let's say sometimes I am lazy
