Provinces declares dengue fever emergency

The northeastern province of Si Sa Ket on Tuesday declared that the prevention and control of dengue fever had become an issue requiring urgent attention throughout its area. Health chiefs said they were especially concerned about what will happen during the latter stages of the traditional rainy season.

Study shows fewer than half of Thailand’s motorcycle users wear helmets

Despite non-stop campaigning by the government and road safety advocacy organizations since 2011 to get motorcyclists and pillion riders to wear crash helmets, only 45% of motorcycle users wear them. According to findings, by the Thai Roads Foundation and Road Safety Watch network, under the sponsorship of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (Thai Health), Thai motorcyclist are among the worst in ASEAN for disregarding both the law and their own safety.

Thai security officials have confirmed that four more people were killed in a late-night attack on July 24 by Muslim insurgents on a military outpost in the southern province of Pattani. Militants struck the remote base throwing grenades and laying down nearly an hour of automatic fire. The attack is considered “payback’ for the alleged torture of Abdulloh Esormusor.
