webfact
Weatherman warns of tropical depression approaching Thailand The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning this morning (July 30th) to alert the public of possible impacts from a tropical storm, which is expected to reach Vietnam on August 1st or 2nd. The TMD reported that the tropical depression, over the upper South China Sea, is yielding winds with a sustained speed of about 50 knots. The storm is currently almost stationary but the met office will advise as it develops. The storm is expected to move through Hai Nan, China and make landfall over upper Vietnam, when more rain will be likely with torrential downpours over the country affecting the Northeast and the North at first. Taipei is well north of the (mild) storm. By the time your wife's aircraft reaches the general area, I'm sure it will be cruising at 38K+ feet. 1

However in the last week we have had more rainstorms come in and that is a positive. If this tropical depression can bring more, we'll be well on are way to alleviating some of the worst hit drought areas in province.

One or two heavy falls but mostly overnight showers. Not complaining as our rice was suffering but we need much more. Kerryd
Sheesh. Read ThaiVisa often enough and you can experience Tropical Depression everyday ! Considering how little rain we've received and it's now 2 months into the "rainy season" it's going to have to pour a lot to make up for it or we'll be even worse off when the "rainy season" comes to an end in the Fall. (FYI - "Rainy Season" officially started on 20 May this year.)

Same in Nonkhun district, a lot of rain, but more of the kind one would expect in London or Paris, not the heavy tropical rain able to fill up the rice paddies in a few hours. This kind of thin rain evaporates as fast as it hits the ground... As for the depression, we will get some of the tail end of it, but not a direct hit, which very rarely happens with depressions in the South China Sea (which despite its name belongs to the US, by the way...).
