I think you will find that it did not have a huge amount to do with a Thai landlord in this instance - the beer garden (shipping container) part. I first thought it was that place on Soi 13, between Sandy Spring Hotel and AA Hotel, but then realized it's not. That got me thinking, what was the name of that place on Soi 13? I have eaten there before. Off topic, because we are talking about bars and restaurants, but the larger massage place at the top of Soi 13 has closed down as well. Popular Post Leaver
2 hours ago, TaaSaparot said: This is crazy ... Just goes to show, you can't even give a bar away here now. Let's see. 10,000,000 baht turnover a year / 365 days of the year = 27.400 baht turnover a day. (not allowing for Buddha Days and Election Days) Given the staff, and customers, usually show up between 6pm opening and closing time is 2am, that's an 8 hour shift, and the busiest opening time. Granted, they may be open during the day, and may pay tea money to stay open later. 27,400 baht turnover a day / 8 hours opening time a day = 3,424 baht turn over for every hour open between 6pm and 2am, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months of the year, and yes, including low season. Let's use beer as the base product of the business, and say they charge the average of 80 baht a beer. 3,425 turnover per hour / 80 baht per beer = 43 beers must be sold an hour, for ever hour, of ever day, for every week, of every month, of the year. 43 beers an hour would require around 15 to 20 customers, constantly in the bar, between 6pm and 2pm, for every hour, of every day, for every week, of every money, for the year. Sure, there's lady drinks, maybe the odd bar fine, but the above gives an indication of what you would be looking at, trying to reach 10,000,000 baht turnover a year. My guess is, it's running at a loss, and the owner just wants out the the monthly bills, and who could blame him. If his expenses figures are true, they are 196,000 baht a month. That 6,535 baht per day in expenses. 6,535 / 40 baht a beer (this is minus around 40 baht for the cost to the wholesaler for the beer itself) = 164 beers must be sold a day just to cover expenses, before 1 baht of profit has been made. 164 beers a day / 8 hour open a day = 21 beers an hour, for every hour, of every day, of every week, of every month, for the whole year, just to pay the expenses. Yes, PJ, it is crazy. Edited January 6, 2020 by Leaver 1 1

geisha
My favorite bar was in the Agate in the complex of Jomtien walking street , as it’s called . The Fantasy bar, famous for the fabulous collection of old cognacs, whiskys and every alcohol under the sun. They did very good cocktails, had a decent crowd, lots of foreign couples , as this wasn’t a bar girl hangout. As a lady, I felt quite at ease there, chatting to the waitresses, many having been there for years. Air con inside, terrace out. Yes, a strange place to have a bar like this considering the neighboring ones maybe. The owner was getting on, fromNorway I think. Yes, I’ll miss them. I wonder what happened for them to close, anyone in the know?

And the bars at the Beach Road end of both Sois, are some of the busiest bars in town. I predict the Doom Merchants will still be going on about this in another 20 years.
