News topics intentionally closed?

I repeatedly stumbled upon news threads that are closed for no obvious reason.

Today this one:

I can not even submit a report.

Accidental or intentional?

i pointed this out last week in a friendly way thinking it was a mistake and was told to send a email to support.

 

so i feel it is intentional and i am still looking for a pattern in the subject matter.

Yes, we're testing out closing some topics which we anticipate are likely to become problematic to moderate.

 

The majority of news stories will still be open for comments but going forward a small number may be closed.

 

Edit to add - Also stories that are sensitive in nature such as suicide, sexual abuse and others are also likely to be closed for comments.
