The Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee (EECPC) plans to set up a management committee of the EEC Development Fund, which will monitor and make compensations to local communities affected by the mega project, in line with government policy.

EECPC secretary general Kanit Sangsubhan will head the committee, to be formed within 60 days, according to a source from the EECPC.

The committee will decide how money will be collected for the fund, such as requiring contribution from companies investing in the EEC. It presently has a budget of Bt100 million, allocated by the government.

“The fund is created to compensate communities affected by the project, including granting scholarships to students in the areas ,” the source said.

“It will be similar to the Power Plant Fund which takes care of people residing near the electricity plants. However, the EEC Development Fund’s responsibility is greater than that of the Power Plant Fund, as it will also promote development in the EEC areas".

The EECPC has recently drafted new regulations for the EEC Development Fund covering management, cash and commodity management and accounting system, evaluation and auditing.

They are suitable because they are family and close friends. That is the topmost qualification in the land when it comes to high flying appointments.

This baby of the PM's is only in the foreplay stage at present. It is highly doubtful conception will ever take place.

A very poor relative of the original concept will be built and left to rot forever as a legacy to Thailand's wealth diversion achievements.

This is so wrong. Prayut should be Chairman of this committee. Come on people.....he is the Saviour of Thailand. Ya, right!

On the face of it he should be. But he is already Chairman of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee which has set up this Management Committee of the EEC Development Fund.

It might look a bit dodgy if he made himself Chairman of both committees. After all there is going to be a lot of envelopes money passing through this Fund.

Don't you mean "they will all soon be much more wealthy"people.

Well, that is certainly one of the common definitions of "good"!

Exactly. Plausible deniability is critical.
