Drunk or not, the bottom line is that he would probably still be alive if safety glass were used...

Probably still be alive if he did not visit Thailand...

Maybe Did you never in your life stumble when you were sober? Should everybody who drinks alcohol pay with his life?

  • I really don't think that is fair, if he drank too much, so what? He was in the "safety" of his hotel room and it was an accident.  Poor guy, RIP.

  • A good reason for the implementation of safety glass in all doors etc.

But but then the Thai bashers would have no fodder.

of course, some folks will deny that "living life to the full" almost always involves more than just say, a glass of wine with your dinner.  of merely good food and a few glasses of wine maybe or beer.  that's just average folk stuff.  not "to the full".

but then again... hey!  there are folks who even deny, even in 2019, that air travel and tourism (and golf resorts) have "Climate" and Green House Effect written all over them as the first baby step.  as well as why we didn't do anything for 50 years.  or longer.

no.  living life to the full invariably means something special.  and not just jumping out of an airplane as an 80 year old or something like that.  drinking socially but drinking.  almost always.

"He had consumed some alcohol and he and his friends returned to his accommodation.

Victim blaming. A classic Thai trait.

How about a 7 year old kid did the same thing while playing with his siblings? Or a pensioner that lost balance?

The simple thing to solve these simple accidents is to install safety glass, not invent reasons to blame the person that fell over.

Jumping out of an airplane sounds extremely dangerous.

In the UK any glass below waist high must be hardened.

Ive lost count of the times that I travelled in an inter city bus which had huge window width cracks. Another perfectly avoidable end to a young life. Sad.

In the UK they have Grenfell tower.

Shtttt.. don't talk about that it would show that safety is not adhered too in the UK too.

And who was responsible to have glass like that in a door?

People fall from time to time. That's one of the reasons why security glass is used in doors all over the world.

What is the law in Thailand about security glass?

Law?

Would the accident have happened if he was sober ?

tiled  floors, wet  floor , wet shoes, tripped  on rug elderly ( my Mothers sister  died from banging head  on floor when slipped) and a whole host of other ways to fall down. Safety  glass would  stop most of  that

I had my one and only fracture and hospitalization when I slipped on a wet patch on my own porch. And I was stone cold sober at the time.

He apparently tripped over his luggage, so possibly yes.

Is this called victim blaming?

"May have" tripped over luggage... we will never know what really happened other than alcohol played a part in the death.

In Thailand they can rack up that amount in a few  days  on the road  alone.

Some weird comments, as usual on TV and similar forums. A bit of respect or empathy, please. Probably words unknown to many people... MS>

Thailand, "and accident waiting to happen"!

Maybe the law in Thailand is the same as the law in "all over the world", i.e. there is no law, here or there.

Rather a horrible way to die -- glass in the abdomen. I hope for his sake that he was very, very drunk after that wound. There is nothing "only in Thailand" with such accidents.

Possibly, but as one of the TVF sage's said, if he wasn't in Thailand it wouldn't have happened....

Tempered glass is quite a bit more expensive. So somchai will install the cheapest possible pane known to man.

Building regulations in Thailand work the same way as all regulations: Somebody in an ivory tower writes semi-coherent stuff up, next level might read it on a good day and add whatever ad-hoc they want, next level doesn't have a clue what it's all about but goes yes sir of course sir, level below that does it somchai style as it's always been done. Zero enforcement, no training, kowtowing and bullheadedness = Thainess. Welcome to Thailaann!

Does it matter? Whether something is illegal or not has absolutely no relevance in Thailand.

Enough idiots again blaming it on Thailand.

Thailand has no safety, and that is the problem.

A few days back, I stopped a 10-wheel truck with trailer at the traffic lights because I noticed minutes earlier that a brake accumulator bottle had broken off the rear axle of the truck and was bouncing along the road only attached by the air lines. He pulled over to the hard shoulder, found some rope, tied it up securely, thanked me profusely before trucking on down the road.

I am such a "Thailand has no safety" party pooper.

Thailand, a country where a certain type of foreigner loves to gloat whenever there's an accident.
