rooster59
Excessive PM2.5 dust particles in seven districts of Bangkok and Samut Prakan Dust particles of less than 2.5 microns, which blanketed Bangkok and its peripherals and threatened people’s health late last year, have returned to parts of the capital this morning (Saturday). The Pollution Control Department reported that, at 8am, air quality monitoring devices showed PM2.5 readings in Bangkok and its peripherals of between 28-62 micrograms/cubic metre, with the particulate matter exceeding the 50 microns safety level in Sathorn, Phasi Charoen, Bang Sue, Bang Khen, Laksi and Bang Phlad and Muang district of Samut Prakan. The department attributed the worsening air quality to a high pressure cell, which is covering most parts of the country. Popular Post SoilSpoil
We drove from Bangkok to Chumpon yesterday and could hardly see the mountains. Puzzled as if where is this smog coming from, its still rainy season, I checked Firmms firemaps, which clearly shows tens of agricultural fires in the areas above Bangkok. Burning in September is a very bad omen for the rest of the year.

It would be easier to list the countries that don't allow crop burning! USA, Australia, Brazil etc etc all allow, even Indonesia & Malaysia have been known to have arsonist tendencies ....................... What fires? the air quality in the NE isn't great at this time, but there is a high pressure streaming in from China which creates an "inversion" wait till they start burning then we really will have something to moan about - again! Presnock
You are complaining I take about that it is in the "yellow" range up to 90 when it goes to "orange" and then to 116 on my measuring device to "red"...but here in ChiangMai, for 2 weeks now it has averaged over 90 more than 12 hours daily and the last two days it has been over 140 and one area 240+ but most of the readings were in the 110-140 range throughout C/M city and those cities close to C/M. I was shocked thinking that burning here had already started and then I checked last year's monthly chart and noticed that only the main 4-5 "rainy" season months average in the green while all the other months from Sept to Jan average in the yellow and orange, after which it goes to red until May. Having to wear a mask to do anything outside is just too hot! with temps 30-40 but feels like (according to accuweather) 4-6 degrees warmer! All the figures and daily aqi can be found easily at Accuweather Chiang Mai CMIS which shows all the local cities around C/M

Depends very much on the time of the year. And of course, the place. And the action in this area. [Please think yourself.] P.S. Years ago I liked to say, it comes from China... How stupid I've been. We have our neighbouring countries, there are many mushroom seekers in TH north, there are two lignite fired power plants in Mae Moh and in Mae Sot and there is a lot of traffic in Bangkok and in ChiangMai. And sometimes we (even in TH north) too get the smog coming from India. So, there will be no change. Some screenshots attached.

Thai gov't is hard at work trying to make the air quality in Thailand habitable to Chinese tourists. So instead of thinking of dollars, think of Renmimbi.
