BANGKOK (NNT) - The number of people who registered for the Taste, Shop, Spend scheme has reached 10 million. The Prime Minister has confirmed that the measure is helping to stimulate the economy and that the Ministry of Finance will come up with new measures to increase the amount of cash flow in the system.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the scheme is aimed at using a certain amount of money to generate cash flow at shops, hotels and home-stays in all areas. He has confirmed that the scheme does not benefit anyone specifically but it is aimed at systematically generating cash flow. The project has led to more spending, which is also good for small shops. The Ministry of Finance will come up with new measures to have more money circulating in the system.

In Yala, many people queued at Krung Thai Bank’s Rot Fai branch to exercise their rights under the Taste, Shop, Spend scheme when they had failed to scan their faces by themselves after Krung Thai Bank opened for the people on Saturday and Sunday.

Yesterday, the service was open from 8.30a.m. until 4.30p.m. The bank staff opened four counters with staff members helping people to confirm their identification. Those who wishing to register must prepare their phone number, mobile phone and identification card. Each person will take approximately one minute to complete the process.

The number of people who registered for the Tasting, Shopping, Spending scheme reached 10 million last night at about 1 a.m.

Goes to show how far the country has sunk into desperation, you have to give people a one thousand baht coupon to get them to spend 1,000 Bt. An absolute desperate measure to stimulate cash flow which is indicative as to how bad the situation is.

So he reckons 10 million have signed up, but how many are genuine? How many are fake?

I reckon when the bank closed at 4:30 they had 1 million and at 1:00 am they had 10 million so I reckon about 9 million are fake and about the only thing that was stimulated was some elites bank balances.

10 million people registered? So 1 in every 7 man, woman and child, old and decrepit or on the teat, has registered for membership as either a domestic tourist or service provider/supplier.

ID or no ID, this has SCAM written all over it.

This is brilliant marketing.

10million subscribers.

I assume you have to be over 18 to subscribe, so that means about 20% of the entire adult population of Thailand has signed up to travel to another province to get 1,000baht to shop at Tesco...

I'm sure the lies will get bigger and bigger everyday...

It is interesting what people will do for a little free money.

If you live on a few thousand a month an additional 1K is probably a lot ... problem is that most of those supplying cannot afford the extra Baht they need to spend to qualify.

Yes, but the recipients didn't:

1. have to spend it; they could bank it.

2. didn't have to travel to another province [city even] to spend it.

3. The equivalent amount would be approx. 3,600 baht; much more useful.

Just saw a pic of a old co-worker on Facebook. Had three coupons in her hand and a grocery cart full of food. She went 40 km from home to the next city and province.  I really doubt this is going to stimulate much.  People in Ubon buy groceries in Sisaket, people in Sisaket buy in Ubon.

I imagine it's the project being discussed.

He developed from an ordinary to a Super Pinocchio!

I'm just wondering how many millions reach the wrong pockets.

This scheme was aimed at increasing domestic tourism. From what I gather, and one relative did exactly this yesterday, most people are choosing to travel to a neighbouring province where they then stock up on regular items from a participating store and then driving back home again. In other words, it is being seen as nothing but a free 1000 baht present from the Government.

People have to spend within two weeks of receiving their present, which hardly caters for tourism which would normally have to be planned.

Stimulating the economy by spending the Government's own money? You couldn't make it up.

It's a total waste of money and the problems continue......

How many of them die in accidents just to be able to spend 1,000 baht?

And he seems to believe that he's clever? Oh, my Buddha!

My wife came home yesterday evening with 3 bags of rice, 1 bag of instant coffee, 1 bag of instant chocolate, 1 bottle of fish sauce, and an ice cream for me to top off the 1,000 baht.  She was happy as can be and hopes it happens again.

Did that happen instantly?

Pretty much so.  It's good to have a niece that's an IT specialist.  She set my wife up with the app yesterday afternoon and my wife went to the shop that same evening.  It took my wife 5 minutes.  Is that instantly enough for you?
