Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana reaffirms the ministry’s full support for the project.

The Finance Ministry has spurred on the State Enterprise Policy Office (Sepo) to work with the Transport Ministry in quickly appointing new board members to the State Railways of Thailand (SRT).

The SRT has to sign a contract with a consortium led by Charoen Pokphand (CP) led by October 25 to develop the high-speed railway linking three major international airports.

Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana reaffirmed the ministry’s full support for the project and noted that Sepo already has a list of prospective new SRT directors and a chairman. He declined to disclose their names.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob already postponed the deadline for the contract signing to October 25 from October 15 pending the board appointments.

The previous board resigned en masse on October 1.

Saksayam said that, without board approval, the SRT would be unable to submit the signed documents for Cabinet approval.

The CP-led consortium had the lowest bid for the project linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-tapao airports by rail.

Consortium partners are Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc, China Railway Construction Corp, Ch Karnchang Plc and Italian-Thai Development Plc.

I am sure the contracts are ready for stamping, just need some board members to sign it. Hope they don't want to read it, that might slow things down a bit especialy if they have some questions.

Some heavy hitters in that consortium, let's see if they can deliver on time and on budget.

It was never a matter about SRT Board. It was about CP Group's refusal to sign the contracts. That then brought out threats by the government of penalties against CP and having them struck from future contract bidding. The resignation of the SRT Board is a red herring.

One of the problems that may have prevented the CP Group from signing the contract was that not all the land needed for the rail track had not been acquired by SRT. I can't imagine anyone signing a contract while that important issue was unresolved.

Given SRT's track record it had/has all the makings of another Hopewell debacle.

If the high speed has any relation to the speed of the trains we have a long wait!! If they charged a sensible price for tickets-still cheap - they may start the slow process of improvement. Instead of thinking about hi speed,;good to get local services operational first.

Well, did not know that you can appoint an entire board of railway top managers within 14 days after "en masse" desertion of the old board.

New xxxxx on the old trough?

Will the high speed CP chicken train have a 7-11 on board? ????

And a buffet car with the obligatory microwave to re-heat your sausages!
