Republican lawmakers storm hearing room, disrupt Trump impeachment inquiry

Featured Replies

This is just a silly stunt.  These hearings are only private in that the number of members are limited.  Every one of these committees has Republicans selected by the Republican House leadership.

I keep hearing people spout out that the hearings are illegal.  There is nothing illegal about the hearings except Trump's attempt to browbeat the leader of Ukraine.  The facts are there and they will be presented during the Senate trial phase of impeachment.

The only thing illegal about this process is the attempt to shout down witnesses and to threaten those who testify.  Why do the Republicans always have to be such bullies?

It is really amazing to me that anyone would ever vote Republican!  I suspect a Democratic landslide in the 202 election is in the making.

anyway, at least a number of opinions get posted, read and commented upon, what is a step forward from no discussion at all.

The only thing I'll give you amidst the complete and utter nonsense you have been sprouting throughout this thread is that yes, it will be a 'battle in the court of public opinion'....

LOL.

the court of public opinion where all the evidence is cooked up in private.

Yeahhh that will fly.

The public aren't jurists (or even faux jurists) like you.

They already see this as a trial where facts are being cooked up

and manufactured by biased witnesses who are from the never trump

school of thought. Once equal rights are afforded to the republicans to

shine a light on their testimony, most of it will begin to disintegrate

as mere opinion and partisan nonsense.

The public appointed you as its spokesperson? Projecting much?

Nothing for Trump and his supporters to worry about then.

Which begs the question, why risk prosecution to disrupt something you tell us will ‘disintegrate’?

To make their outrage put on record for the public to see.

And the investigation continues.

Next phase it goes public and the testimony already received gets published.

I wonder what you’ll object to then?

What's the point of the secrecy?  There isn't a justifiable reason for it.

There is a very good reason and it is explained in the opening article. That also details the fact that the current hearings are following exactly the same process as that for Clinton and Nixon.

Trump is so dumb he is going to get impeached over a very well known and debunked conspiracy theory conjured up by Peter Schweizer, a longtime associate of Steve Bannon.

Have a read and watch of this as it explains that the story was completely invented to discredit Biden, but Trump is so dumb and desperate that he actually believed it all. If we are being kind, we could say he at least wanted to fan the flames but I reckon he's just that dumb.

Anyway, it all wonderfully backfired and is what's going to get him impeached. Enjoy!

So you consider Clinton's impeachment suspect ? The same process was used.

Trump's deluded moron army do not constitute ' The public '.

Disagree with you there. The more voters want him impeached, the greater the chance the senate will send him away.

At least those who are forward looking will. For the sycophant Trumps it is just another tinfoil hat day.

This is no longer a criminal trial or a political one....it's a battle in the court of public opinion.

The public is seeing how the Dems are behaving like gangsters with their secret tribunals.

Scalise reported that when he entered he had to turn on the lights (wth!)...then Schiff jumped up

and ran off with the witness.....how utterly shady. What are they doing in there? They could be just sitting

in there, eating pizza and making up stuff to leak.

Im just waiting for it to be revealed that the whistleblower is Ambassador Taylor....which would mean

he's colluded with Schiff to bring another baseless charge.

Go Dems!

Hmm.. some trump cult members scream that the impeachment process at this point should be run like a criminal trial (this is the evidence gathering stage so that request is nonsense). OK if you want this run as a trail then the standard for conviction to be proof "beyond a reasonable doubt".  Your hypocrisy is amazing. You stated the only standard of proof you would accept for the guilt of the cult leader is absolute proof - IE Video...or audio.

I admire the hypocrisy and the guile. A true follower of the orange leader.

Soviet style secret hearings to oust a duly elected president. Nothing more nothing less.

Sure thing. I guess the founders were soviets when they gave congress the power to impeach and they didn't even know it. They aren't hearings. They aren't trials. These are depositions of witnesses.

Good on the Republicans.  Just wait.  Rather than Trump going down it will be Schiff and Pelosi at a minimum who will take a fall.

It’s how the process works ???? read about history ????

The hypocrisy of the trump cult members is amazing.

I read a book on the heaven gate cult member and the short take away was the more they were presented with evidence that there was NO space ship behind a comet passing near earth -The spaceship was going to take them away to a better place - the more they believed there was a spaceship behind a comet that was passing near earth.

The orange cult member will probably believe in their dear orange cult leader until they die..it is sad and tragic that people are such fools.

The irony is astounding. They're trying to nail Trump on corruption...

by using the most corrupt means possible. A dirty impeachment.

A secret hearing in the peoples' house, where the people have no idea what is being said and discussed.

It's good because it gives the Don even more ammo to press his case go presidential obstruction, resistance and

harassment. Luckily it's the people who get to be the judge.

Hiding behind the secrecy laws signed off by Boehner is no excuse. That stuff is for routine

hearings that might involve a military mission got wrong....not the most consequential

political process there is. Good luck to the shady Dems...they're obviously stung by

the fact that their boy Mueller came up empty handed....so now it's impeachment

by any means possible.

It all stinks of desperation.

The GOP knows they can't win elections fair and square so they do things like gerrymandering, technical difficulties at polls at certain districts, bully tactics like this one.  What they pulled in Georgia in the last election was a milestone of electoral corruption.  Matt is a "laugh at my own sorry jokes" type of d-bag, thinks he can get away with Bart Simpson stunts like this.

I nothing else they are playing for time, stretching this past election day 2020 so DT can run as a political victim.  Should he survive -- one day he just might go a little too far with those french fries and....  The guy is on a statin, you know.

When we're quoting the wisdom of the likes of Trey Gowdy and John Bolton, you know we're in tough times.

Lol!

"Independent counsel Ken Starr conducted his probe of President Clinton using a grand jury, which by law conducts all its business behind closed doors. In Watergate, special counsel Leon Jaworski also used a grand jury to collect evidence that he eventually transmitted to Congress during its impeachment inquiry. Much of the legal work analyzing the evidence collected by Mr. Jaworski’s prosecutors was done behind closed doors by congressional lawyers.......

Under GOP leadership, the Senate and House intelligence committees conducted separate reviews of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, largely interviewing witnesses behind closed doors.

The Republican-run House also conducted an inquiry into the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, largely behind closed  doors"

Very nice spin but the reality is the congressional hearings are being held with both democrats and republicans and are consistent with past investigations.

If you want this investigation to run like a criminal trial then once the evidence has been gathered the standard for convicting a person in a a criminal trial is "beyond a reasonable doubt" - I am sure you agree then that the standard for convicting the orange cult leader of crimes should be beyond a reasonable doubt and not the absolute proof you earlier claimed was your standard for convicting the orange cult leader. Or are you a hypocrite?

Here's Judge Napolitano to explain it to you:

Good for the Republicans who did this.  It's about time they started fighting instead of giving up and "losing like a gentleman."

The Dems fight dirty; the Republicans need to start doing the same.

I didn't see any complaints from Rrepublicans operating under the same rules during the Benghazi investigation. Rules created by the House back when it was under Republican control.

Those rules where meant to be applied by Republicans against Democrats, not by Democrats against a Republican.
