Dead Tablet, possible to recover info.?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I bought a Alldocube IPlay 8 from Lazada just over a year ago and this morning it just died. I have tried all the recommended restart procedures to no avail. The battery had plenty of charge but the screen just went black. I have a lot of epub books as well as audio books stored which I'd like to recover if possible. I connected it to my PC but there is no recognition of the device because it's dead I guess. Any help appreciated.

You can just take it to Pantip and have them estimate repair costs, it may just be the battery that's gone.

Or you can pay them to recover the information on to a USB.

I'm no expert, but it should be possible to recover your files onto a USB. Possibly the software on your PC doesn't recognise the software on the device, which may be why you are getting no response. I've found the computer shops here are pretty good at recovery and repair.

Have you heard of the anybooks app? I can't believe how many titles of popular authors it has - free.

What restart procedures have you tried?

I bought an Alldocube 10" dual boot version about three years ago. Generally been very pleased with it but it has 'died' on three occasions and have been able to eventually reboot it. The last time was last week.

The only thing I have tried is to press either the up/down volume button together with the on/off button. There's not much else to try AFAIK.

How long did you keep them pressed for?

I've found you have to keep the on/off and vol down buttons depressed together for about twenty seconds for it to boot up. The second time the battery had gone completely flat. I had to leave it on charge for about three hours first. It took that long but then after pressing the buttons for twenty seconds the blue light came on. Released the buttons and it booted up. But last week I tried that without success. Tried a second time (for 30 secs), no light but after releasing the buttons the tablet started up again. I think you might need to keep the two buttons depressed for twenty seconds + to put it into reset mode.

I had an IQ i-mobile phone a few years ago that would crash intermittently and the I-mobile shop told me that was how to reset the phone. It works for the Alldocube 10" tablet for me as well.

I held them down a lot longer that 20 seconds, more that 2 or 3 minutes. It's dead as a doornail. I'm a bit loathe to buy another from Lazada, they are cheap enough but if you only get just over a year out of them it's not worth it. I bought my partner an Asus tablet, it cost about 3500 baht but it's still going 4 years later.

I've bought 3 Alldocube  iPlay 8 tablets from Lazada (Suc-Seed Shop) for grand kids  one tablet is at a year and 4 months old and still works but someone sat on it and broke the screen...the other 2 are still working fine.

They have a mini HDMI socket so even with a broken screen you can connect it to a TV and a USB mouse for some functionality.

so I installed an App called IP Webcam

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en

turned it into a CCTV camera..only it wasn't very stable, I think due to the broken screen constantly sending random inputs.

OK. Maybe doesn't use the same progamming. Sorry, worth a try.

As I said mine is an Android/Windows dual boot system. Had it for over three years and I've been more than happy with it. It has a removable keyboard as well so, when we go away for short periods, it's a mini laptop and does everything I need.

sometimes there is a socket that connects to the rom memory since it is typically soldered on. should it have a socketed rom then it can be swapped to a working tablet.

some places that do board level repair can remove a soldered on rom and recover data by resoldering it on a working tablet

At Pantip in BKK or Tukcom in Pattaya they should be able to resurrect your tablet, at least long enough to get the files off of it.

I never keep important files on my tablet's main memory.  Always keep important files on a SD card so if the tablet dies you can simply pull out the SD card and put it into your next tablet or a card reader.

Pay a little more for a Samsung or Asus tablet next time.  My Samsung lasted 5 years and when it stopped working they were able to fix it for 1500 Bt at Tukcom - a lot less than the price of a replacement.

Even if battery dead. Still should boot plugged in.

To get into the Android menu just Google how to do it. Can't recall if power up or down.

Nothing there for you to try except safe mode. If that works, copy files and take it for repair.

The SD card can die too. Your tablet might be stolen. Your hut might burn down together with your tablet and your SD card. I put really important data (some encoded) into a cloud that I trust. Should be a big company so that it doesn't dissappear after a while and with it all your data.

That's why I said the battery still had a 75% charge when it went. I don't believe it's the battery that's the problem. I usually DL books and audio to it from my PC but now the PC won't recognise it at all.

"A little more"? Try at least 3 or 4 times as much.

Have you tried to slow charge it.

Not via electric outlets but connected to computer USB port.

Do this for 24h

It was already charged when the screen went dead.

Wait!

Is your issue the PC does not recognize it or it won't boot?

It is possible the LCD is dead and it's alive but if it normally connects to PC easily I'd prolly rule that out.

Both. The PC won't recognise it because something has failed inside the tablet.

If you are in BKK. Go to fortune town. Boom mobile 2nd floor. Guy replaced my battery for b300 labor. It was Amazon Fire. No one else would touch it so he has balls to tear down the odd ones.

The battery was still holding a full charge when it died, and could play for several hours, so I don't believe it's the battery.. I have already opened up the tablet, that was easy enough, but local repair here in Pattaya want 500 baht just to look at it. Can buy an updated model same brand for 2500 baht.

Normally the power from the charger goes via battery to the device. The battery delivers about 3.8 Volt and the charger about 5 Volt (this could be deadly for the device). Also the charger might not be able to deliver peak power needs like the battery. So I doubt that it will work with a dead battery even if plugged in.

If a tablet battery is similar to most other batteries, ie it doesn't just die, it will either retain less and less charge and the strength gradually diminishes. The battery in my tablet was holding a full charge and would play for several hours just prior to the tablet going black, so I think some other component has failed.

2500 Baht for your tablet is a very good price. I have a Samsung Tab S 8.4 that is several years old and used a lot. No problems but about every 2 years it needs a new battery. Only the battery change is about 2000 Baht...

Tell a lie, price has gone up since I bought mine, now 2790 baht, but now it has phone capabilities and it's an Android 9 instead of 8, bigger capacity as well. It's nothing flash but it suits my purposes. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/2019-alldocube-iplay8-pro-8-9-2-32-3g-i388878675-s755276884.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.1.746534ae4b3cmP&search=1

It can die in a blink if the battery monitoring circuit fails. This can quite easily prevent power on depending on how Master Yungwoo configured it.

And there endeth the lesson, next time back stuff up.
