Can a Foreign Female Legally Work Without the Usual Approvals ?

Recommended Posts

!. Can a foreign female, married to a Thai male, work without any need to obtain the usual approvals - Non "B" Visa, Work Permit etc., solely because of her marriage ?

2. If there are special provisions for wives who are citizens of adjacent countries, please list those countries.

3. If the rule has changed within the relatively recent past, what was the date of the change ? If some women were excluded from having to comply with the normal requirements in the past, are they still not required to comply ? If they have remained in the same job ? If they have taken a new job ?

1) No

2) Possible:

Section 14.     The alien having place of residence  in, and being of nationality of, the country having common· boundary with Thailand  who enters into the Kingdom with travel document under the law on immigration may be permitted to engage  in  specific  categories  of  works  or  in  works  with  specific  nature  in  the Kingdom temporarily through the specified period or season within the area which is adjacent to boundary or the area which is contiguous therewith.

a foreign born wife married to a Thai national , does not require any financials to receive a 1 year extension

Yep. Sex discrimination is alive and well in Thailand.

Women are looked down upon , second class citizens.

Apply for citizenship, then you can work while waiting for the process, and they'll extend your VISA indefinitely.

Only condition (as far as I know) is your Thai husband needs to be employed.

And either does the Thai male. He doesn't need even 1 baht to prove that he can support his wife. Married or not, you still need a WP and cannot do work designated to Thai's only!!!

im confused, i posted what you have posted, but you start your post with 'and either', which i think you mean neither, but either way you agree with me, and yes she would need a work permit, but easier to get with a 'marriage' extension
