Started walking for exercise, but.....
Do it as you can without pain. There are no rules for it. Swimming is an option. But as I said, avoid what will cause pain. A orthopedist's visit is also an option. But give your body the chance for recovering also. Curcuma longa (Tumeric) is helpful to many people with same problems. -

Do Thais really attack foreigners for no reason?
Some people in deep denial. Just in the last couple of days, there were two separate incidents of elderly foreigners minding their own business beaten up by Thai teenage thugs in Pattaya. First, a 66 year old Swiss man, who's car was destroyed and then an 80 year old Belgian man who was stabbed by a group of teens on motorcycles for no reason. Sadly, it happens, especially in Pattaya.- 1

Refractive Lens Exchange surgery recommendations.
I obviously do not know your background for this need and I am not a medical expert but this may help I had my lenses replaced (RLE) at Bangkok Hospital Phuket and the cost was nothing like 190,000 baht per eye. I had the 'Bright View' procedure with tri-focal lenses. I paid about 230,000 baht last year for both eyes. No discounts for long term foreign residents. I found a very good residence within walking distance (HOMA) where, again, prices were very reasonable. In spite of the fact that the specialist (Dr Captain) looks about 16, I found that the whole experience was the most professional that I have ever come across.
